Sorry if I am being panicky, but this is the lowest we will ever inject him. He was coasting in the blues last night. I stayed up and checked on him. He was super cuddly and good spirits.

Do I have to have a feeding syringe on hand? I have honey and high carb dry food and plenty of test strips. Could run out to get a syringe and some hc wet food real quick.

I feel like I am ready to inject. Yesterday he went up from his AMPS after getting his insulin.

Holding off on injection and feeding for now. Please have a look at my SS and advise!

HC canned would be a good thing to stock. Never know when you will need it!
Why do you ask about syringe feeding? Is he a picky eater?

If you can monitor and he will eat, you can shoot.

Just asking cause it is part of the hypo kit in case things get bad and the cat wont feed. I doubt we will go there or anywhere near there today, but I am just worried cause this is all so new and kinda scary! We will inject and monitor and I'll pick up some friskies to have on hand. Thanks Bandit's Mom.

There is always the option of applying some honey to the gums if kitty won't eat. But as long as you have LC/MC/HC foods that he likes and he is his usual self/eating well, no need to worry!

If he dips, you might need to feed him snacks at regular intervals - so best not to fill him up too much to begin with.

And could you please update the condo title to reflect that you have shot. So people don't think you are still stalling and waiting for help? Thanks :)

Done! And I put his food up for now. He ate about half of his 3oz can. Now he is sleeping like an angel. I will grab some high carb wet food and some treats at the store in a bit, then test him at +2. I am excited to see if he can dip his toes into the green today!

So +2 is 105, so looking good so far, will check again in an hour.

I feel bad for pricking him so much. This time my meter kept showing an error message so I went through 5 strips before I got a reading! Luckily the second ear prick yielded a good drop of blood that I could keep "dipping into". Poor bebe.

At what point/number should I consider giving him some hc food?

I would need him a little LC snack now.

HC food is usually for dips below 50. Depending on how late in the cycle the dip is and how carb sensitive your kitty is, sometimes MC works too. It's trial and error.

Since the +2 is lower than the amps I think you will see a drop under 100 on your next test. It’s early in the cycle so I would feed some mc if you see this.

Alright here we are at 51...he seems fine. Was fussy when I went to prick him. NOW WHAT? He ate and drank about 30mins ago. Should I give him some treats? Honey? Keep testing??

What did you feed him 30 mins ago? The MC that @tiffmaxee suggested?

I would test in 20-30 mins to see if the treats did the trick.

Ok. Are you able to get another test in 20-30 mins? We want to keep kitty above 50.

I would wait for the next test before more food...we want to keep kitty hungry in case we need to feed more at next test.

I’m not familiar with your meter, just checking that it is a human meter? :)

Just so I am aware of the tools we have:
LC fancy feast (do you know which one?)
    Honey
    HC dry food
    Treats

is that right? I think I read that you were thinking of getting some HC wet food too?

Yes! The fancy feast is the Seafood Pate Classic combo pack. I have honey, I have HC and LC treats and HC dry food. I am a block away from the store that has HC wet food so if need be I can run over and get it.

The treats seem to be meeting the insulin to keep it stable.

How does a tsp of LC with a few more treats sound? Test again in 30 mins.

Just came back. Please give some hc food with karro syrup or honey. A reduction has been earned. I wanted you to feed mc at +2 and get a test at +3. When he was at 50 he needed hc food. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear about the mc. His new dose starting tonight is .75 no matter how high he bounces. If too low you will need to skip. I have to leave but will check back later.

Looks like he is not a fan of honey!! I managed to smear some around his mouth and he lapped it up, but not even close to a tsp. He got up and fled when I continued to smear it around his gums...

He seems a bit out of it, like spacey. But his tail is still going left to right and he is moving about (running from my honey fingers!). About to test again. I got him to eat 5 Greenies, and forced some more honey in his face. I also tried confectioners sugar mixed in with his wet food, but he doesnt want any of it. He seems very confused about why I am wanting him to eat so badly. No other hypo symptoms I can observe. About to go for another test.

:bighug:Ok, now that we are through the lower numbers, I have a couple notes for you :)

@Bandit's Mom had said that what food combos will work takes a bit of trial and error. Here is what we did:

144 preshot: ate 1.5 oz of LC
    105 +2 no food
    +3.5: ate 1.5 oz LC
    51 +4 ate 5 Salmon greenies
51 +4.5 1 tsp FF LC and 5 salmon greenies
    48 +5 honey and 3 greenies
    49 +5.3 honey and 5 greenies
87 +5.7 LC wet left out (went to the store)
    101 +6 no food

I think the importance of food is something for next time. Making sure that kitty eats all their breakfast and then snacks if kitty is dropping before numbers go too low. @tiffmaxee had suggested at +2 to feed some MC food to help slow the drop a bit. The other 1.5 oz was given a little late maybe at +3.5, so breakfast didn’t quite meet the insulin today. We feed to meet the onset of the insulin and then feed snacks to surf the nadir. Sometimes, higher carb content is needed to slow a drop early in the cycle. If the MC had been able to be given at +2, we may have kept a higher surf today.

We made it through, so all is good, just something for next time :)

Many of us feed at preshot and then at least 2 other timed snacks. Mine looks like this:
preshot, +2, +8 on both am and pm cycles. More if he is dropping fast or sharply and more if too low. I’ve seen others that feed at other predetermined times with an auto feeder. @JaxBenji has a good snack routine as do most others.

With SLGS, you definitely earned a 0.25 reduction beginning tonight bu dropping under 90.

Breathe well! I’ll check in a bit later :bighug:

Yeah getting the insulin and sugar dance down is what it's all about it seems! Thank you for the summary.

I just checked him and he is 124. Steadily rising :) I don't have syringes with .5U gradation, so I don't know if I can reduce him successfully tonight. Would harm be done if I go NS tonight?

Good evening! Sorry I wasn't around earlier...I'm trying to be on vacation - but that has been a total failure - at least as far as my boss is concerned...vacation, smacation...

Looks like you had plenty of great supporters throughout the day and you did a fine job with Spencer swooping down to visit the sharkies (those lime greens)...

Next time, if he goes lower than he should, you could try putting the sweet stuff on the back of his paw...Luci is a glutton for sweets so she'd lick honey off the wall if it was dripping down...sometimes cats get upset when you start messing with their mouths...but put it on the back of that paw and they just can't seem to help wanting to 'clean up that mess'...looking at you all the while with the 'how dare you look' on their faces...but guess what, honey or karo goes in with the clean up...and they are none the wiser that it was a plot (by you to get his numbers up)...

Looks like you're doing a great job overall. Keep up the great work and WELCOME to the forum!:bighug:

I am glad Tanya was around to help you. It’s scary the first few times they drop under 50. Post at PMPS to see if it’s safe to shoot if you want to give it a try. He might bounce high by then. There’s no harm in skipping though.

So +9 was 199, looks like @tiffmaxee was right. Bouncing right back, he is! I gave him some food but from now until PMPS no more food. Then we will see what the meter reads and go from there.

Sounds good. If under 200 ask for guidance. No matter how high the bg is you won’t shoot more than .75 as he let us know 1 unit is too much.

He earned a reduction yesterday but your ss shows you did not take it this morning. Did you shoot 1 unit again? His dose is.75.

That was my mistake. Yes he got a unit. I did not have the proper syringe to give 0.75U. My partner is picking them up today. SO 0.75 from now on. Especially because he dropped way down again today...
