Thanks to all for your support, it's super important, even if I don't react because I'm overwhelmed with worry all your comments are so so so valuable!!!

Aida seems to be back to her old self, although now that I know that she's hyperT, I see her playfulness more critically…
She has a normal appetite, not ravenous. I haven't syringe-fed her today, no fluids either. But still no poops…I'll keep her with the ondansetron for some more days until I'm sure we're out of the woods for good.

One weird thing, my other cat Feloro was sick yesterday with vomit and diarrhea, could it be a stomach bug? I gave him the Cerenia (maropitant) I had purchased for Aida, he ate better today, but is still a bit lethargic… although it's difficult to know with him, he's a lazy big boy and with the cold weather he becomes even more a couch potato! I might bring him to the vet for a quick check-up…

Aida is in her 8th cycle with no insulin, her BG is within range. Do any of you understand what's happening to her? If it was pancreatitis, how come her pancreas decided in the middle of an inflammation to start working properly?

So many questions, cats being cats, they keep us on our toes…I love them!

Hi Daphne,
Good to hear Aida is getting back to normal, playing and eating better. Sorry to hear about your other kitty. Could be a bug or something he ate. Hopefully not a pancreatitis flare with him too.
Sorry I can't give you answers for you but hopefully someone else will.

Have a good Thanksgiving!

Hi Daphne, so glad to hear Aida is feeling much better!
And hope Feloro feels better soon too. Wonder why that all happened? Could be an issue with the food???
I hope everything calms down soon in your house!!

Oh boy I hope it isn't the churrus!
I've found churrus! In Greece!! They're nowhere available and I was so jealous of you all talking about churrus so I bought some! They might have gone bad during transit…
He's back to his normal self, so it was a rather short episode.
Pfew!!!!! It would have been so hard otherwise…
Food wise it's rather a desert here, unfortunately… It was poor in France, I was importing things from Germany… But here…boy…I don't remember if I've written it here or in another group, but there are some very very species-inappropriate foods here… Foods with less than 20% protein DMB, way below what AAFCO and FEDIAF recommend… With more than 15% ash DMB for CKD!!!! CRAZY!!
no control, nothing. Very sad...

Ugh. I’m so sorry the food choices are so terrible.
Have you thought of making your own food for your cats? (I do that so I control what Ivy eats and I know I’m not putting garbage in her body).
I work with a nutritionist (a veterinarian) who formulates the recipes for me which include the proper supplements).
Just a thought.

I'm glad to see that Aida is doing better, I hope your other cat will be good soon as well!
I made homemade churrus, just boiled chicken and mixed it with water. she eats the pouch anyway (I have a crazy food-obsessed cat!), so it's better like that, I give it to her on a spoon or in a big syringe.

I remember one other kitty, Trixie, who actually went OTJ after a severe pancreatitis episode. She had been diabetic for 3 years. Completely unexpected, one of those ECID things. It's early days yet with Aida, so we'll just have to see if the trend continues. I've also seen one cat after a p'titis episode go briefly off insulin, but then needed to start back up again. I hope her health continues to improve.

I was cooking for them for a while, Aida liked it but Feloro not so much…
And then, she became diabetic. It got super tricky to formulate a recipe that would be low in phosphorus and sodium for Feloro and low in carbs for Aida, all the while having prebiotics and being yummy to both of them…
The other issue I was having - but it is a very personal one - is that meat yikes me, it totally totally yikes me. I had never bought meat before starting cooking for them (I’ve been a vegetarian for my entire adult life, and a vegan for the past 10 years), and for the entire process of preparing the raw flesh, I was putting double gloves on and sanitising everything before, during and after the whole process, which was of course super time consuming…
So, when I stopped it, I re-discovered the wonders and convenience of industrialised food, Feloro was much happier and Aida’s BG was better controlled.
It’s not ideal, I know…
I might try it again at some point though!

I’m sorry I got a bit lost in all this but re the issue can pancreatitis improve diabetes: was pancreatitis confirmed by spec fPl and/or ultrasound, or diagnosed off of symptoms of anorexia, vomiting? Bc I’ve seen hyperT cats be anorexic (from nausea) vomit and have diarrhea so perhaps her pancreas was fine. Science being what it is I’d expect BG to worsen with inflammation to pancreas. If a cat was insulin resistant for some time (so body was compensating by making and releasing large amounts of insulin) and then something happened to suddenly reduce the insulin resistance I suppose it could result in a temporary excess of insulin but I’m guessing at that. And I can’t think of a situation that might cause it.

but we say in medicine that sometimes the patient’s disease didn’t read the textbook, meaning it doesn’t follow the normal course. At any rate it sounds like she’s getting better (I think?) so I’m happy for that and hope you can find something that works for her.

Yes Colleen, I’m lost too, there are so many things happening all at once…
I’m guessing it was pancreatitis because the onset was sudden. If it were from hyperthyroidism, I guess it would have developed over a period of time, but I might be wrong.
There is no spec fPl here, and I’m not sure if the vet checked her pancreas during the ultrasound, I still haven’t got it.
I start having a plan. I found the unique feline endocrinologist of Athens (maybe Greece?) and a recommendation for an oncologist. We’ll go to the oncologist on Monday and he’ll say what he thinks is best: first regulate/or treat the hyperT and then do the surgical GI biopsy or the other way around.
It all costs, but right now, she’s with a super low dose of methimazole and I think that I can see her rest peacefully. I might have been blind to the hyperT symptoms…
