Hi all-

After last nights highs Boo had some surprises hidden in her fur. She dropped to 234 at almost +3 and then back to 373 at +6 but was at 211 at +11.25. I did not test again at +12 because she ate right after the test so I'm calling that her AMPS.

I did not get a chance to look at your posts from last night before I gave her her shot because I was late for work so I just gave .5 again. I did get a lot out of the information you guys gave me once I read it and I will look at increasing the dose.

Here is the most wonderful news.......I was able to test for Ketones this morning and she was negative! YEA! I'm sure 3+ days on antibiotics is helping and certinly her BG has been lower overall since Lantus (last night PMPS number aside.)

As far as a dental, I'll be honest, we have never done anything about any of our Kitties teeth. The vet said she had some real Gingivitus on the back molars. I think we need her teeth looked at but with her health so fragile it's tough. She was the runt of the litter and was born feral but saved at 3 1/2 weeks covered in fleas, filled with worms, malnourished in a ice storm. To save her, she wound up being removed from her mother with her litter mates. When she was fixed at 6 months she did not recover from the anetheasia like a normal cat would. It took a few extra days. She was in full kidney failure at DX on 11/27/09 with the following numbers: BUN 77 mg/dL CREA 5.0 mg/dL. I suspect going under anestheasia would end her life. I'm really not sure what to do about that right now.

Great news about the lack of ketones! And, a very good start to Boo's day.

Right now may not be the best time to consider a dental. Once Boo's health is stabilized, you should really consider it and discuss the issue with your vet. Any source of inflammation or infection will raise BG levels. There are dental specialists and if Boo has a difficult time with anesthesia, that may be an option. One other thing to research is what kind of anesthesia was used during her neutering. Not all anesthesias are created equally. Isoflurane or sevo are generally best, but not all vets use a gas form of anesthesia. The other issue may be how well Boo was monitored while under anesthesia. Jill put together a very comprehensive list of questions in order to find out how a vet routinely handles dental procedures. When you're ready, just ask and we'll pass the list along.

Big bummer! Boo girl is at 411 tonight pre shot. The only thing was that she ate before I got to her to test her pre shot so there could be a little food spike in there. I gave her a bit more than .5 units. I know you guys think I should increase.
