Morning, all!

PMPS+11=389.
Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=202
Grumpy, uncooperative, sleeping. Got blood far more easily than last night, but she's really, really reluctant. Overnight food still in dishes. Will be watching carefully this morning.

Jill and Alex said on yesterday's condo:
if nothing unusual happens between now and amps, i'd take the dose up to 2.25u in the morning.
we have a ketone prone kitty, steroids in the picture, and higher numbers...
Jill, a clarification. She's already on 2.25; do you want me to bump to 2.5? I've got an hour before shoot time, so...and nothing unusual happened overnight, including me being unable to wake and get a 2 am reading.

Cassandra, thanks for the link; I didn't know. I was hoping that I could get a relatively cheap dinner into them once a week...but that's all right. I need to revisit the charts and find something which works which is less expensive than Wellness wet...I will be exploring the whole grind at home thing, and hopefully that will bring some relief to the budget, but at this point, I'll just stick with Wellness.

I have set the day aside on Friday for a 2-hour curve over 18 hours. I should be able to accomplish that without too much trouble. I suspect it will yeild some interesting things...

As always, I so very much appreciate the help, encouragement, reminders, and just general cheerleading this board provides. As I sit here with a kitten on my shoulder playing with my hair, a cat on the chairback playing with the kitten's tail, a cat snuggled into the kitty bowl next to me, and two more lurking on the floor...I appreciate the help with Esse more than you might imagine.

I hope all have bloos and greens today...

Re: 12/30 Esse AMPS=403, shot 2.5

O.K., she's 403. So I went ahead with the dose increase, and she got 2.5 units today.

WCR: Totally furious with me. Can't stand the eardrops, and thinks I've become a spawn of Satan. No big deal, bigger animals than her have thought similar. LOL. She is not grooming, but has used the box. She ate three bites, and then huffed off...but got her insulin nonetheless. She is trying to hide under the triangle corner shelving I have up, but she doesn't fit, so I can see everything from her head down. LOL. She'll get over it...it's more important to treat the infection than to have her loving on me at the moment.

WBR: Slept badly, but managed to sleep through the 2 am alarm. Sigh. Am heading back to bed; I will be riding this morning, and then home...I will get a number before I leave, and when I get back, too.

NOT fair...if she can't see YOU, then you should not be able to see her... sigh... you really
have to learn to be a good mama and stop giving her ear drops and stuff that she doesn't want...she is
try8ng to mind meld with you and tell you that she is perfectly fine....

Perseverance...& Patience too....
Hope you enjoy your ride...glad you are aware and attending to her ears....wishing you well.... :)
Good luck with the increase...."spawn of satan".... LMHO

Yes, Spawn of Satan I am. LOL. I've had experience with much larger animals and treating ear infections - my horse's head is about 7-8 foot high when he lifts it, and I still managed to get him treated (and he hates having his ears done...). He's the one who first called me spawn of satan, and the name seems to have stuck. How Esse learned it is another story, considering she's never gone to the barn...but animals are telepathic...

Actually, I just looked out the front window; huge dark clouds means that I won't be riding today...the chance of rain was supposed to be less than 20%, but I haven't seen that color cloud in a while (that dark, dark blue-grey color), and think that staying home - which I haven't done since school let out - is a better idea than pulling Tango out and riding in a weather-change (he gets very antsy with weather changes...tends to be out of control and hyper). So I'll just stay home and warm today; and if I get a good nap in, I'll be able to stay up late, and then get some numbers overnight! Especially since she's got steroids on board, AND it's a full moon...so it should be pretty interesting. LOL.

Gabby treated me the same way when I had to give her ear drops -- she would run away. It was a constant battle. Good luck with the dosecrease.

PMPS+355. 2.5 U shot.

WCR: Has hidden most of the day; very unusual behavior, but between the ear infection and the treatment, I think it might indeed be explained that way. She has pee'd, groomed, and a bit of interest in food...but...well...shoot.

WBR: Stayed home today because of the rain, and had a great day with the kitties and a great book...so...hopefully I can get some tests tonight.

Good luck with the dosecrease! Looking forward to seeing where it takes her.

I think you would enjoy grinding if you looked into it. At least I really did. It was an interesting process - made me feel like I was really doing something good, even if it was so incredibly loud that my eardrums wanted to pop out. ;) Can be a real money saver too, I agree.

Right now, money is so tight that I'm going without so they can have Wellness, which works for her and the rest of the herd. Not going without a lot, but still, I'm feeling the pinch. As a student, it's not easy living on loans and savings...but they didn't ask for me to be a student, so they come first. I've found a great way to save on litter - use pelleted bedding I use for the horse in their boxes, and it works magically; and it's $7 for 40 pounds...which lasts us weeks. Now if I can just find a way to save on food, because I can't save on insulin and strips...that would be great.

In any event, I think we're on the right track; she still is calling me names behind my back (Malachi tells on her...), and like I said is hiding; but I know all the hiding spots, and she really can't fit into most of them (she's big, 16 pounds), so I just look for her tail and pet her backside until she pokes her head out. LOL.

I need to look into grinders...anyone have recommendations?

You know, they're not fun. But I'm more worried about her very subdued behavior...I know that meds can make a person feel worse before they feel better, so maybe this is the same thing with kitties. But bless her heart, she had rods and cocci in there. That needs to be nailed...

I'll be keeping a close eye on her, just in case there's something else going on. I don't think there is, but keeping a close eye never hurt...

Where do you get strips from and what kind of meter do you use? Can save tons of money on strips buying from eBay or Amazon. I use the Accu Chek Aviva which has strips that retail for about $55 per box of 50, and can usually get them for $13 to $17 per box on eBay or Amazon. The more you can buy at a time the more you can save. My last purchase was 6 boxes of 50 for $80 - all with expiration dates of 2011 - so about $13.50 a box shipped.

Do you order food by the case? (I assume you do with that many kitties :)) Buy from Petfooddirect.com when they have a good coupon out? Order the 13 oz cans?

Just tossing out suggestions.....my head is full of them. ;)

This is the grinder many people use and Dr. Lisa recommends:
http://www.onestopjerkyshop.com/tasin-t ... -p-47.html

It basically can grind through anything.

+2=322. Still feeling poorly...doesn't want to eat. But she's also purring when I get down on the floor to snuggle her, and she had evening lovies like usual...
