Another night of howling, this time starting at 1:30am... I finally caved and opened the feeder and let him free-feed the rest of the night. It helped some.
I've been thinking he's mad that he can no longer go outside. Then I'm thinking he's constipated. Then I'm thinking painful UTI. Occasional puddles outside the litter box (mad because he cannot go outside) show light clear urine. Finally, this morning, there are pebbles in the box. So perhaps it's constipation from the a/b (which are now finished)...
Off to Health to research safe poop meds...
