Rico drank some water on his own this morning but kept feeling nauseous and avoided any food. This means he had been withoit proper nutrition for over 24 hours (apart from very small quantities I managed to syringe feed him). He became very stressed during the trip to the vet (about 2 hours) and even more when we got there (hence the high BG when tested). The vet gave him an X-ray and an urtrasound to check his heart, kidney, lungs, bladder and pancreas. They found some struvite crystals for which they told me he does not need medication but food supplements. Nausea and diarrhea were also attributed to GI bacteria and gave him a Cerenia injection and prescribed Ondansetron pills (which I already got) for the next 2 weeks. They also gave him a full blood test - I have uploaded the results. The main problem though is that his mouth is sore because of autoimmune stomatitis. This is long term and the reason Rico relapsed and got out of remission in the first place. He was given a Stomorgyl injection and will need to have one every month now on. I forgot to ask the vet whether this antibiotic affects his BG or not - I will call Monday morning. He was also found very dehydrated so they gave him intravenous fluids in the clinic with instructions to give him 200ml subcutaneous L-R fluids daily for the next 5 days.
The vet also told me that , being a 15-year old diabetic cat, I should be preapred that every day could be his last day because, when one thing starts going wrong, there is a "domino effect" and everything starts to collapse.... I know it may be true but I don't want to accept it. He's still lively, he runs, he plays, he eats and responds well to his insulin. His Lab Tests are much better than the previous, I think. Why should stomatitis affect him so much? I don't know... Right now I'm tired, I'm desperate and hoping you'll give me more ideas about how to help my Rico.
