After Mally's hypo event of late last night and early this morning, we managed to grab a few hours of sleep. When I finally went to bed after getting her +7 test at 4:00 AM, Mally snuggled up very close to me and slept by my side until the alarm went off this morning. She usually sleeps on the pillow next to me but even after all the pokes she wanted to be very close to me when we went to sleep.

She is doing great this morning. She was hungry and ate a nice breakfast after I got her AMPs. I saw her go in the LB and stuck a ketone test strip in the warm litter and it was negative. I shot her new dose of .1 which, after practicing a bit earlier, seems like not much at all. Maybe a couple of drops at the most. Hopefully I did it right and she got the little bit that makes up such a tiny dose.

We have a vet appointment at noon today. I'm having her right ear checked again and will ask the vet to clean it out good and see if it warrants any type of tests. There's a little bit of gunk in there and I think that's what bothers Mally the most. When she bathes she is always trying to clean out the inside of her ear but can't get to it.

She is napping on my bed right now. Lucky her!

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91

Great job last night. (And it wasn't a hypo -- it was low numbers!!)

Whatever you can do to avoid a steroid eardrop for Mally will be great!

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91

Can you tell me what the difference is between hypo and low numbers? I thought that when they go as low as Mally did it was considered hypo. Maybe because she didn't have any symptoms but was just having low numbers?

Thanks, Sienne!

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91, +2 104

Off to the vet soon which I'm sure will get her numbers up even more.

We have big plans for the afternoon once we get home. SLEEP!!!!

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91, +2 104

I'm with you guys - naptime for us as well. And yeah, Morris had a hypo....Mally had low numbers. The difference is the display of symptoms.

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91, +2 104

I second what Sienne said... great job last night and low numbers are not necessarily hypo incidents (altough the vet may not make the distinction ... am anxioius to read the 'speech' you'll have gotten from your vet today!). Test strips and gravy make you a super hero!

Congrats on the dosecrease. 0.1 is a tiny dose and then..... sometimes... there's GUM at the end of the tunnel.... just saying. :-D

Re: 2/2 Mally AMPS 91, +2 104, +4 64 Back from vet

I tested Mally as soon as we got home from the vet and expected her to be higher than 64. It was a pleasant surprise to see that she wasn't.

The vet said she is doing really well with the Lantus. I printed a copy of her SS and took it with me and the tech was very impressed. The vet wants me to keep him updated on how she is doing with her .1 dose and since I have an appointment with him next week for two of my other animals, I'll give him an updated SS. We talked about her dosing and how she earned her decreases and he was very pleased with her progress so far.

As for her ears, the left ear is clear and the right ear still has a bit of gunk in it. He cleaned it out and told me to get an ear cleaner and use that on her to help keep that ear clear. I told him up front I really didn't want to have to put her back on the drops with steroids and he said there was no need to do that. I thought the vet might have the ear cleaner Fleapunk told me about but they didn't. I'll get some and keep Mally's ear clean so she's not always trying to clean it herself.

She's happy to be home and had something to eat. She was pretty quite on the ride home until we got closer to my house and they she started meowing like crazy. It was as if she knew we were almost there and she wanted out of her crate!

Glad to hear Mally is doing so well. Hope she can go OTJ before too long.

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111

Piper, one of my civvies, decided I needed help tonight with Mally's PMPS test. She was batting at my testing stuff. Leave it to a black cat to be determined to have her nose in everything.

Mally is doing well this evening. We took a nice long nap this afternoon and when I got up, she decided to sleep a bit longer. Tonight she gets her second dose of the new .1 dose.

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111

Good luck tonight. Hope you get some sleepus (when it is dark outside ;-) )

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111, +2 56

Thanks, Paige!

Mally is down to 56 at +2 so I put some food in front of her so she'll surf a bit rather than dropping more.

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111, +2 56

Good work Chris. And this is great news that Mally is on the 0.1u dose. How exciting!!

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111, +2 56, +2.5 52

Thanks, CD!

She's down a little bit more so I gave her a few more bites of food. I want her to surf and not drop fast. The food the cats typically get during the day are the FF varieties that have 2% or 3% carbs. Tonight I gave a little bit of food that has 10% carbs. Although that is still within the range of low carb, it's a little bit more than she typically gets.

Re: 2/2 Mally PMPS 111, +2 56, +2.5 52, +3 57

And especially good since it is the nighttime cycle. Good to get Mally to surf and stay a bit higher so mama bean can rest.

It has been said many times that the hardest times for treating FD is the beginning and at the end. In the beginning, fear, stress and worry .... and towards the end, it's lack of sleep as you watch for the final signal to go to trial. :-D
