Okay, the green streak is over, but only just barely!

I'm a little concerned about the Lantus, though. We started a new bottle on the 1st. This morning, when I pulled it into the syringe, it seemed a wee bit thicker than I'm used to. It looks fine in the bottle -- completely clear, not cloudy at all. It's just that the bubble that always draws in (the air from the needle) stayed stuck in the middle of the barrel, rather than rising to the top.

I stink at science, but this seemed not what bubbles in liquids do.

I had not had coffee, so this could be my imagination. But if DH agrees tonight -- yikes, a new bottle wasted??

hi Kathy

although the SS speaks for itself, currently Kitty looks very good!!
However, my suggestion on that vial would be - when in doubt, throw it out, don't stress, just toss it and start a new one before u make urself crazzzy wondering and wondering - the way I see it, u passed 28 days, you have some doubts, u feel something is off, start a new one if it would help u feel better.

I agree with Ronnie. None of us can 100% certain if the bottle is still okay or not. And with all of what's going on when one care's for a sugar cat, one doesn't want to make it more difficult for oneself.
You need your peace of mind.

Re: 2/3 Kitty +6 79

Thanks, guys... but this IS the new vial -- at $100!! We just opened it February 1.

DH thinks it might have gotten colder than usual. We usually keep it on the top shelf, but it was on a middle shelf last night. I'll see how it is tonight.

I agree, though. We have too much at stake, and I won't let anything get in the way of Kitty's health and progress.

Maybe don't chuck it just yet but use another source. Maybe it will clear. Kitty has been doing so well. Is there someone in your area that could split the cartridges (5 - 3 ml)with you if you went that route? A little more expensive to begin with, but much less waste.

Could the problem have been with the syringe? Try another syringe and see if you get the same problem. If so, I'd take it back to the pharmacy - or at least call. I don't know if the consistency of the insulin would be effected if it were mishandled.

Re: 2/3 Kitty PMPS 78

Sooo... DH says he's noticed a more "syrupy" consistency in previous vials as well.

AND... the blasted 3-year-old refrigerator is broken AGAIN! 120 days on a 90 day warranty. cat(2)_steam

I doubt there's any connection. We caught it quickly, so the insulin was still cool. Good thing we still have our 18-year-old second fridge in the basement!

I guess we'll just have to monitor. So far, Kitty hasn't noticed a thing. Beginning day 6 of this dose, BTW!

well that's something u dont need, but lucky u for that trusty old fridge back up lol
is the syrupee stuff cloudy to u?

Hi, Ronnie,

I did know to look at the vial and check visually, and it looks perfectly clear to me. It sloshes around in the bottle as usual (upon very gentle motion! ).

DH and I switch off on shots-- I do weekday mornings, he does evenings -- so I handle the bottles as often as he doesn, and I have never noticed this until today. confused_cat

Just watch the situation, I guess? It would be horrible to have to junk a new bottle.

Re: 2/3 Kitty PMPS 78, PM +2 68 - fed 1/2 can

I don't think I need to worry -- but if I do, someone tell me! confused_cat

He didn't eat much of his shot-time dinner. Usually I hold the dish for him, but I got distracted, and he walked away.

At +2, he was really hungry. He just ate nearly 1/2 LC FF (tender beef).

So i think it's okay to go to bed. I always leave him lots of food, and I'll be very generous tonight!

re whether the lantus is ok, buy a small fridge thermometer at cvs or another pharmacy, okay? put it next to your lantus and that'll tell you if it gets too cold.

what works for me, tho i haven't heard this from anyone else, is the smell. if my lantus smells really strongly of bacon, it has gone bad. lantus has a distinctly different smell. you could always bring it back to the pharmacy for replacement if you're worried about it this soon after opening.

The numbers will tell you if the lantus is good--I found the vials were more fragile than the cartridges or the pens--Bubbles--I hate em   --Always a battle with me & bubbles--I agree that!
Kitty's numbers look pretty terrific to me--If insulin is bad, you'll know right away! ou're doing GREAT

Re: 2/3 Kitty +6 84, PMPS 84

I think the numbers are saying the vial is okay! (Except for the bubbles. )

Phew! :thumbup

ETA: Uh, those are Thursday's numbers. Wow, did I not post all day?? KITTY is fine. I, however, am losing it!!! Sorry.
AMPS 94. :)

Hi Kathy, My Kinney Drugs pharmacy will sell me the cartridges one at a time, so I don't have to lay out so much $ for the whole box of 5. Check with your pharmacist. Maybe they will do the same. It costs more to buy them one at a time (here in rural upstate New York I paid $43.45 for a 3ML cartridge), but it seems to be less strain on the budget! Good luck!
