Good morning LL ~O) Is it Friday yet?

Webber was quite awake this morning. He greeted me in bed when my alarm went off and ate well. I am pleased with a little higher PS this morning. However, I may have gotten a fur shot? But I don't smell it on him fur so it must have went in :-x

Will still be here at +5 to get a spot check.

Question - my syringe has been open since 01/06. Do I continue to use it as long as it is clear and no floaties? Would I see a steep decline in effectiveness if it were going bad? I don't want to lose the momentum that Webber has going

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 Question

No,not Friday yet!
Probable You think cartridge insuline.I would say since is 28days old it's time to replace.
Sometimes You can use it longer, but if you see creeping #s than....it's gone.
BTW,nice PS!

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 Question

Beautiful AMPS number for Webber. I've been trying to open your ss to take a look and it won't load for me (probably nothing wrong with it, just my computer acting up this morning). The rule of thumb is 28 days for Lantus. I have been fortunate with Max that I was able to use his insulin longer than the 28 days but I wouldn't advise that for anybody. If you have new insulin, I would say to use it so that you know you won't lose any progress that you've made.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 Question

Forgive me, yes I meant the cartridge.

I was thinking the same thing about just opening another one to be safe. Thank you both for your input and experiences.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 Question

Paige with the numbers Webber is getting I'm certain your insulin is just fine. I used mine for over 4 months and everyone I know uses it almost till the end (sometimes the last 50 units aren't so good, regaurdless how old it is) I'm sure Webber will be OTJ before you need to open a new one!

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR INSULIN IS NO LONGER GOOD?

* When you lose regulation for no reason.

* If you see any hint of "floaties"/"tiny particles"... discard the insulin.

* If insulin is cloudy or discolored, or if rubber stopper is cracked... replace insulin immediately.

* The manufacturer of Lantus recommends discarding the insulin after 28 days of use.
However, many Lantus users have been able to use a vial/cartridge/pen for as long as six months.

* The manufacturer of Levemir recommends discarding the insulin after 42 days of use.
Many Levemir users have been able to use a vial/pen for six months. However, most Levemir FlexPen users do toss the pen when the insulin gets down to about the "12" mark on the FlexPen.

Most people use the insulin for a quite a while past those 28 days. Only if it looks cloudy, has floaties or has been stored improperly should it be replaced. If suddenly the BG numbers went whacky or the insulin seemed to be having little or no effect and other factors (infection etc.) had been ruled out is it reasonable to try fresh insulin.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 Question

Thank you Monique. Call me paranoid because this morning is the highest AMPS he has gotten in a few days. So naturally I have to obssess about something ;-) I know 89 is still good and I am soo worried about jinxing him progress. My DH tries to tell me to chill out. Every morning is going to be different, and really I have no way of knowing if he was munching before I got up this morning. Most of the food from overnight was gone. However, I have four cats so you never know who eats what.

I pray that he will be OTJ soon but am willing to do this for as long as I have to to make him heal and get better

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89

Good morning, great AMPS # - very happy for you! Webber & you are so lucky to have no bouncing or going low! Yay!
My insulin has been open for 27 days, so it is Ok? I never considered discarding it until Baby's #s did not go low - as long as they go lower - I am not going to waste my prized possession!

Way to go Webber.. cheering you on!!!

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89

My vet actually told me the same thing Monique said about the insulin. Humans discard after the recommended discard date, but with cats you can use it much longer.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 Question again

Is it okay to surf in the 50's? I know the normal range is 50-100 (right? I sware I need to write this down). But 50 is the low end of normal. Is my boy ok to surf here? :?:

ETA - please don't get me wrong, I am happy but I want to be sure he is safe as well. Thanks!! :YMHUG:

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 Question again

It doesn't look like anyone's around right now, Paige. Are you there to test and keep on top of this number?

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 Question again

I think 50 is just on the edge of safe. You may want to check him again in the next hour to make sure he's not dropping, or give him a little snack to keep him surfing. I'm basing this on what I've read on the board and in the stickies, Magnolia has never gone that low before!

Keep it up Webber! :RAHCAT

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 Question again

Paige, me too, I can test as long as needed.

Glad you're able to keep on top of Webber's numbers.

I'm no expert and I know others will chime in, but maybe Webber is working toward another decrease.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 Question again

Thank you Sara, I think he won't go down any more from here. HOwever, he did eat between the +5 and +5.5 and still went down one point. I sure don't want to go back to work either. This is my lunch break and I have to leave now.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 Question again

Just make sure you leave lots of food out. I've heard that kitties will eat more if they know they are dropping too low.

Work really has a way of getting in the way.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 Question again

Opened up a new can of FF and he is eating. Yay

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 Question again

Hi Paige
You can feed Webber a little low carb if you haven't already done so. Yes he is very safe surfing the 50's.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 DOSE QUESTION

I left him at home with a new can of LC. Just hope he eats is he stays in the 40's. Last time he dropped to 41 he was just sleeping :-| But I had to come back. I am sure that the little he ate once I opened it brought him up.

I wonder.....does this count as another dosecrease (I got a reading of 49).

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 DOSE QUESTION

Can I bump my own message   flip_cat

My shot time is a few hours away I know but I hope I can get some eyes by then. Thank you fairy godmothers

I'm more like the wicked stepsister but eh... tis better than nothin isn't it?
After I say ... lots can happen in several hours... am thinkin Webber gets a dosecrease - only if he didn't get one this AM...... correct... Edited to verify and all is good.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 DOSE QUESTION

You went below 50, so I think you can decrease by 0.25.
At least these are the rules as I understand them. ;-)

I hope people will correct me if I'm wrong

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49 DOSE QUESTION

Ella and Helene I agree too! It is nice to hear it from others though. From what I have learned every time he drops below 50 (as a newbie) he earns his wings...I mean his dosecrease  I am getting punchy I think it is time to go home.

Til later ya'll

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49

I really think Webber and Mally have been having some secret phone conversations. They must have wanted to see what it would be like to get one decrease after another in a short period of time.

Re: 2/3 Webber AMPS=89 +5~50 +5.5~49

Funny, I was just posting to your condo too.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 EYES PLEASE

Webber has only been on 0.75U for three cycles. However he did drop to 49 today. Is it too soon to dosecrease to 0.50u? Also this morning and this evening PS #'s are higher than he had been getting recently. I am concerned about him dropping to low but also concerned that 0.5U will not be enough.

Suggestiong? THoughts?

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 SHOT TIME EYES PLEASE

I think I am going to give him one more cycle on 0.75 and see how he does. I want to make sure that this dose has taken full effect and he is still not emtying the shed. If that makes sense.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 SHOT TIME EYES PLEASE

Shot 0.75U. He ate well this morning and this evening.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

At least with this cycle you are home to monitor. I know it's hard shooting him in the morning and then having to go to work and wondering how he's doing until you can get home at lunch time. See how he does tonight.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Yes at least I am here to monitor. Now if I can just stop crying.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

shouldn't cry.... SMILE!
Look at Webber's progress! Don't worry about the highish (really not high, just your reference point is skewed now)... it's a good number!

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Awww, Paige. Big hugs for you!!! Weber is doing sooooo good and you are doing a wonderful job! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Thank you CHris and Helene. I just didn't know what to do. I stayed with his current dose even thought I maybe should have not. I am good now, I got it out of my system. You two are wonderful and so it LL!!! o:-)

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Glad you are feeling better, Paige. Are you ready in case Webber decides to take you on a wild ride tonight?

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Yes I am going to take shower and get my running shoes on. lol

Nicole! Is that a new pic of Baby? So cute.

I am just being weak over here. I was on the fence about what dose to go with and I made mt decision and I know either way I would have ended up in tears.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

Dear Paige....

Your neighbour Heather (&Boo) would have replied to me... the dramaqueen "you make me giggle". This is not to make light of your feelings, it's normal.
49 is essentially 50... we had a draw a line in the sand somewhere.... If you have strips and gravy, YOU are a superhero! It's ok to shoot 0.75 if you are home and monitor.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 No Dosecrease

New pic, yes. Webber does not drop so no need to worry. I can tell you dont like dosecreases LOL
Just keep your boy safe & dont try to push it too much LOL
There are no worries here though.. he surfs & that is obvious.

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 +1.25~61

I am pretty sure that tonight will show me which way to go tomorrow :-|

Re: 2/3 Webber PMPS=84 +1.25~61 +2.75~57

Things are looking good so far. Last few nights he would have been in the 40's by now. Whew! Keep surfing in the 50's Webber please. bcatrun_gif

I think Webber showed me that he is still okay with this dose. Goodnight LL, see you in the morning.
