2/6 - Salem amps 201, +1 120, +2 49 fast drop!

After I shoot I always squeeze the syringe to make sure it's empty - this time there was a droplet of blood. If I shot a vein, what's going to happen? Should I be ready to get him to an emergency clinic?

I've heard of this happening, I'm sorry I'm not sure about it - hoping someone with experience can shed some light on this.

Thanks, Ronnie. Having found a little info on the internet I feel a little better. Only a drop of blood means I probably hit a capillary, not a vein. I'll watch him this morning and retest at +30 just in case.

Hi Camille, nice to see you :-D

I don't know where you shoot, but the chances of you being able to reach a vein through the flank or back skin with a wee short insulin needle are very slim! I'm betting on a capillary too. I'd test, as you plan to, but I wouldn't worry in the meantime.

Jess! Great to see you in FDMB land! And thanks, that's reassuring. I shoot in the scruff with a short needle so I guess not much chance at all of hitting something bad?

Lots of dropping for the first hour. Will give LC snack and keep watching.

Did I mention how well Salem is doing lately? The vet I took him to a few weeks ago recommended an all low-carb, low-fat FF diet since his pancreatitis test was still high - maybe it agrees with him. Or may he's just improving.

49 at only +2. Starting to think some Lantus did get directly into his bloodstream - but it should have been gone before now. Maybe he's just having a fast, low cycle. Maybe he's asking for a dosecrease. Gah. Gave a few bites of HC.

You may have shot IM rather than SQ, and the absorption is faster. Perhaps changing your post title so the Lantus peeps familiar with Salem can advise you through this and the next dose?

Can't offer advise on this one but will be checking in to see how Salem is doing - not sure what some of the jargin means (IM ? SQ? ) Hope the hc gives a little boost. hang in there - you are monitoring him very well so seems like you are on top of things :)
 
Thanks, Jess, and everyone. I'm watching him and waiting for +3 - trying not to fall into the trap of "OH NOES HE'S SLEEPING SOMETHING'S WRONG".

Whew, a little rise. Without HC I'm pretty sure he would have gone under 40. Gave a couple bites more. What do you all think - dosecrease? Wait and see if this was a fluke?

Pretty hefty drop you caught there...If it was me I'd probably opt for a hair dosecrease, but I've got fluke-phobia... Maybe others would argue for BOS. Fingers are crossed for you either way!

Hi, Jane! Wonderful to see you! This is starting to feel like a class reunion. :)

Gave a touch more HC. Nadir should be in the next 20 minutes or so, so he should level off or start to come up.
