Re: 2/7 Buddys amps 177+wcr

Hi Marci!
I'm sorry to hear Buddy is not well :(

I'm also sorry to tell ya he needs to go to the vet. Anytime they lose appetite, it's a bad thing. Since he's a diabetic, it's possibly a pancreatitis flare, but there's really no way to know without him going to a vet. Have you done any ketone tests to rule that out? Vomiting is never a good thing for our lil dehydrated babies. If you were going to give that pepcid (only Pepcid AC, no others), it should not be more than 1/4 tablet, but I do think he needs to see someone. See if anything in here looks familiar to you and if so, ask your vet to run the fPLI test while you're there. http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/read.php?8,876722,876722

Not to put the cart in front of the horse, but pancreatitis is not only pretty common with FD's but it's also very easy to manage and not very costly either, so if that's the dx you get, that'll be a relief.

Re: 2/7 Buddys amps 177+wcr

I agree with Carolyn -- vomiting is never a good sign. Unless this turns out to be an off day or a hairball in progress, you might want to have the vet take a look at Buddy.

Re: 2/7 Buddys amps 177+wcr

thanks so much for that-i'll take him to the vet tomorw. he hasn't eaten today, just a few licks,
but is alittle more active and alert now, no vomit for 6 hours, and slight diareah.
how can i give him the pepcid ac if hes not eating? he wont take anything orally-he bites, can i crunch it up and shoot it down with a squirter?

Re: 2/7 Buddy** is it urgent?

is there anything he will eat? Baby food, tuna, boiled chicken? If you offer HC gravy does that interest him? (that might cause worse diarrhea, but at least maybe he would eat something). You can try shooting the dissolved pepcid in, but I'm concerned about the not eating. How long has it been since he has eaten? Have you ever tried to syringe feed him? I would try tempting him with things first, but it might be necessary to syringe if he won't eat. Have you checked for ketones?

Re: 2/7 Buddy** is it urgent?

The pepcid AC 10mg is what I give to Shadoe, only 1/4 tab of the 10mg, be sure you don't have the stronger ones - then you would give much less.

Yes, you can use a squirter; crunch up the 1/4 tab and mix with liquid then squirt.

I had the similar problems Jan15th with Shadoe, and it came on quite fast. One day, she was OK; the next I realize she is sluggish, not eaten for over a day, will not drink much and is vomiting foam. I can't comment on the diarrhea as Shadoe did not have that issue.

I took her into the vets, they gave her fluids, and I took her home with more fluids, some pain meds and some nausea meds. Pancreatitis is painful, so be sure you get some pain meds for Buddy.

I was given Buprenex and also some codeine transdermal gel for the pain. My vet gave me a couple syringes filled with the bupe, and I gave her that the first 2 days, then used the gel which is good; you can rub a bit inside the ear flap, so no worries about getting bit. I also got a pill shooter from the vet; ask for one of those to have on hand and you can use it to give the pepcid when Buddy gets nauseous. I did get some cerenia for Shadoe's vomiting but have not used it because she stopped vomiting after the vet visit and her first batch of fluids.

Be sure to ask for the fPLI test to be done so that you can know one way or the other if Buddy has pancreatitis. I am not sure but it's best to be testing when the kitty is sick to get proper results.
Good luck at the vets visit.

Re: 2/7 Buddy** is it urgent?

soup up food real good and syringe it into him. crush pepcid into that. 1/4 tab max. use 6cc syringe if u have it.
syringe water too. see if he perks up.. if not, yes, it's urgent. sry typing one handed
