Hello FD friends,

Last post I was concerned about Trixie having some higher numbers and wondered what could have caused the spike. She did manage to bring herself down on her own and has stayed in the 90’s. I was still worried that since she was not getting to those 70’s and 80’s that she was too close to the tipping point and it wouldn’t take much to get back
to higher numbers again, so I booked a dental. At her appointment in December, the doc had no concerns about her teeth.

Well, I got a shock today, she had to have 6 teeth removed due to resorption, including her 2 bottom fangs 😢 4 had already absorbed. She was showing absolutely no signs of having any mouth pain. This is my third kitty with this so I know what to expect but man, it’s a terrible thing.

She’s home and feeling no pain at the moment lol. She’s was sent home with bupe for the next 4 days.

Hope everyone’s kitties are well and healthy!

Here’s my poor girl out of it.

Oh, baby Trixie!!! I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that!!
It's really bizarre that her teeth were fine in December but are suddenly so bad! Jude ended up having two cleanings last year because his teeth looked so bad. Thankfully, everything was okay and there weren't any major issues. The vet told me that cats with FD just tend to have terrible teeth issues.
I sure hope that this procedure gets her back down into those nicer numbers that we know she can experience.
Feel better soon, Trixie!!

Thanks, Mary. ❤️

The vet said she was just as shocked and could really only see how bad they were once she started the cleaning. I’m glad Jude has not had any major problems.

That's interesting that she couldn't see how bad it was until she started the cleaning. I wonder what sort of exam might reveal the decay, if there even is one? Maybe x-rays?

Ahhh, poor thing. I don’t wish that process on any cat or any caregiver. So stressful!

I can’t remember, has she had a dental before? That scares me too because even if they have one it’s like how long does it last, and how would you know without symptoms? Hopefully she’s good for a really long time now :bighug:

X-rays will show that but usually just done when the teeth are cleaned I think. I hope no more will be needed any time soon if ever.
Thanks, Elise. ❤️ That is exactly what the vet said. No way to really tell until they get in there and have a good look.

Thanks Tim. 🤗 It sucks. 😔

She had not had a dental before. Plan going forward is to have one every year so we can keep an eye on things. Unfortunately, with tooth absorption, there’s not too much you can do to prevent it.

Oh sweet Trixie. I'm sorry she had to go through this. Hopefully she's not in too much pain and she recovers quickly. Sending many healing vines for our sweet girl
✨🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿✨

Please keep us posted about her recovery and hopefully this cleaning helps with her numbers.
❤️😻🤗✨🐱💚☘️😻

Oh poor baby. I hope sweet Tricia has a fast recovery! ❤️‍🩹 🍀🍃🍀🍃🍀🍃🍀🍃❤️‍🩹
I hope you don’t have to go through this process again 😘
Ivy had a dental in 2023, soon after her FD diagnosis. They took out most of her teeth, she only has 2 fangs in front left 😩

They can hardly look in her mouth since she’s such a fighter at the vet 😩

Awww, poor sweet baby Trixie! She looks so cute in that shot, but I know how distressing it can be when they're super out of it. ❤️‍🩹

I hope her recovery is smooth, and I'm glad they caught it and took care of the problem! (I have some envy that she was able to get it done so quickly.) I'm not surprised that she wasn't showing much in the way of outward signs ... I never had any idea how bad Gen's tooth situation was just from how he was acting, and even though the poor boy has had to live with ongoing periodontal disease while we try to get him stable enough for surgery, I still wouldn't think he was in any oral pain based on his behavior. (Except when the vet tries to look in his mouth, that is.) They're so good at masking this stuff.

Thank you, Staci ❤️ We so appreciate your words of support. 🤗

I’m so sorry Ivy had to go through that, I can’t imagine a vet trying to have a look in her mouth lol 🌶️🌶️🐈‍⬛

Thank you, Allie ❤️

You are so right in that they hide symptoms so well. With my other 2 they had signs (tooth grinding and head turning while eating) but Trixie had none. Can’t help but feel guilty, but I’m glad it’s done now and I know she will feel so much better once she’s healed.

Hopefully once things settle down for Gen, he can get his done too. 🤗

Oh feel better, Trixie (and Kat)! Good thing in the long run and hopefully that keeps her BG stable. She is so pretty, even (especially) when flying in the clouds.

That's my 🌶️ 🐈. Bell has had extractions as well, along with knocker one of her fangs out in a fall. I felt so bad, but they do fine without em

My Arya had the same thing a few weeks ago. 5 out. Here’s her ketamine photo… 😂
I had to wrap her in a blanket and hold her down until she went to sleep. She was completely tripping!!

Hope your baby is doing well now.
