Amps 241 Libre

This morning Ivy eat well with no issues. Hooray for that :cat:
There was a poop in her litter box 1st thing this morning and it seemed pretty normal. I was quite relieved with that.

I gave a smidge increase to 2.5 Fat (She’s been lingering a bit in yellows and I didn’t want to give her a full increase in case there’s some pancreatitis looming as she may not eat, she tends to go lower when she has something going on So I went with a conservative increase).

Seems we are already seeing action at +1.5 at 157 on Libre.

Recap from yesterday: she vomited after eating a little bit of her breakfast, and then her stools got softer throughout the day.
I gave her Cerenia 4 mg dose yesterday and early last night I gave her a dose of Animal Essentials Colon Rescue, which seems to help with loose BMs.

I’m hoping those doses helped and she will be OK and not have another flareup of pancreatitis, watching her very closely and very worried
I will give her another 4 mg Cerenia today and see how she does.

She’s been acting normally, climbing on me purring, and ate her breakfast quite well this morning so I’m hoping she’s going to be fine. All paws crossed here :nailbiting:

Glad she ate today! I wonder, do “P” attacks frequently come back to back like that or usually more spread out? Good luck with the increase :)

Hi Christine Oh, the dreaded “P” was just a nightmare and I’m praying we’re not having another round of it.
Have you dealt with it before?

how is everyone doing in your house? I hope they’re all doing well and giving you no trouble at all.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Tim, About the back to back attacks, I’m sure ECID applies as usual. I sure hope not because that was really not a good time. Praying we’re not having another round of it.

Hi Mary, she’s still not 100%, so hoping she will fully recover. Not sure how to get her stools back to normal.

Thanks, Staci! By the way, was it you that said you feed Ivy egg powder? If so, what is that for? I've looked it up and see that it's mostly used as a food topper to stimulate appetite; is it also used for constipation? I started Jude on Jarrow's S.boulardii (because he's taking an antibiotic), and it seems as though he might have a little constipation (but that seems counterintuitive for a probiotic, doesn't it?). I thought about giving him a little psyllium husk, and if the egg powder is good for constipation, I'll try that too. Truthfully, both Hazel and Jude could use softer poops, in general, so I'm thinking this is a food thing for both of them, and I might start the fiber on a regular basis.

Our paws and fingers are crossed over here for you and precious Ivy; I'm hoping she can get back to 100% soon!
 
Hi Staci, I read your post from yesterday , I hope it was just a one time thing. I'm glad she ate well today and the poop was normal. Very nice cycle so far .
Why do these kitties always have to make us worry .

Hi Mary, yes I do usually give her 1/2 tsp of the powdered egg yolk plus psyllium husk to keep her regular and normally it does help. Below is what I use.

At the moment I’m not adding the egg yolk into her diet because she’s too loose and I don’t want to add to the problem, but I think generally it’s a good thing to add.

Hi Diane, well her poops have been soft. Sigh.
Trying to get them back to normal. Still giving Jarrows S. Boulardi and Colon Rescue with Cerenia.
Thank goodness she’s eating.
We could all do with less worries :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Be careful with psyllium. Kitty has to be drinking enough water or it can make the constipation worse.

S. boulardi will only cause constipation if you are giving too much. If you are giving antibiotics, Visbiome Vet is a much better probiotic to help keep the gut microbiome from bringing too impacted. I suggested Staci use egg yolk powder and it does help with motility. I give my cats 1/4 tsp twice a day and they never have hairballs or constipation. If you want to use psyllium, start with a tiny amount. My cats also get this at a smidgen twice a day.

Thanks so much for this advice, Marje. Jude isn't much of a drinker (well, let's be fair, the only time I've ever seen him drink is when he was first diagnosed with FD). Consequently, I water his (wet) food down, fairly heavily. So I'll reconsider the psyllium, and will be super careful if I include it. I'm also going to cut back on the S.Boulardii, as I think I might be giving him too much (1/2 capsule, 2 x a day--but he shares that with his sister). He had diarrhea with the last dose of Clavamox, and I was worried that it might start back again, so I got the Jarrow's and started him on it as soon as I began the AB. I read some on the S. Boulardii with the information that Staci posted, and I thought that was the dosage I needed for him, but maybe not. I'm going to give the egg yolk powder a try. I wish the Visbiome wasn't so pricey! I have five cats, so $$$$. Again, thanks!

You’re welcome!!

I only give that much S. boulardi if one of the cats has diarrhea and as soon as I see a firm stool, I stop it so maybe you gave it a bit too long? For just maintenance, a smidgen spoon twice a day is plenty. But again, it’s not the best probiotic to give when giving an antibiotic; I know the Visbiome is expensive and with five cats...definitely but you could just get it to give if someone is taking antibiotics. They do sell it in smaller packets so you don’t have to buy a whole bottle.

I really like the egg yolk powder. My cats never ever have hairballs and they usually have a normal stool every day although they are raw fed so sometimes, it’s EOD as most raw fed cats.

Marje, do you think I should continue Ivy on the S. Boulardi once I get her stools firmed up again?
I’ve never used it until this pancreatitis situation and I haven’t stopped it since we began it a few weeks ago when all this started. (she gets the Adored Beast Healthy Gut on a daily basis, You use that also, don’t you?)

Yes I use both all the time. I just use 1 smidgen spoon bid for both.

Yes, and it's not fun. Jack ate super high kibble for almost a week and the BG was a mess!
