yesterday's post

Jude received a dose increase last night. He's not working it yet, and that's okay--it's too soon yet. But I'm tempted (again) to take him back into the vet office to make sure we don't have another UTI since his numbers are a bit higher than they have been being and climbing.

Safe surfs, everyone! Have a lovely day!
Hi Mary, hope Jude works the new dose well when he’s ready. And I sure hope he doesn’t have a UTI.
Sending lots of positive vibes:bighug::cat::bighug:

Crossing paws its not a UTI and that you see some improvement once Jude gets used to this dose. Happy Friday!

Good luck with the increase! Crossing my fingers that he doesn't have a UTI (or anything else going on) and that he just needs a little time to get into his groove with the new dose!

Hi Mary, does he have any other symptoms that would indicate a UTI?
He's rarely symptomatic with his UTIs. He might have larger pees, and he might go to the box more frequently, but neither of these are super obvious. No crying in the box or anything like that. Normally, the UTIs cause his bg to shoot up, and that's the only "symptom." Oddly, back in March he had some of the lowest numbers ever, and I took him in to the vet because he wasn't eating, and they determined he had a UTI. That's never been a symptom of a UTI for him in the past, and I'm pretty sure it was related to the lower bg. He can be a bit of an enigma sometimes.

Hmm... at least he not showing symptoms of being uncomfortable or in pain. I do remember now that you were surprised that his numbers were low while he was being treated for his last UTI, I really hope that is not the case and just a blip in his numbers. I feel like a lot of members have been increasing lately...

Is the "as fed percentage" what I should be looking for in terms of carbs. BTW, this is Weruva brand. I fed Jude some Lamburgini a while ago, and in absolutely non-typical-for-Jude fashion (when presented with new food), little dude hoovered it. The can doesn't have any carbs listed (unless sunflower seed oil is a carb I'm not familiar with). When I looked on the website, one of the carb lists mentioned 7% for the carb value. But then there was this chart, and I thought I remembered people saying this is what we should look at. Food confuses me.

You can use the "as-feds" or the Dry Matter Basis Values. To use "as-feds," you have to subtract the moisture first. Here's the link to the sticky for Calculating % of Calories from Carbs

8% is stlll LC, LC is up to 10%.
Whew! I was worried I'd unnecessarily and unwittingly carbed the little dude. 8% is still higher than his FF pates (and much higher than one of his faves which has 0 carbs). I was/am trying to find something HE WILL EAT with lower phosphorous. I guess it's not enough to rely on just reading the label; we need to look at the carb analysis.
