Holding the 8.5 units, his blood ketone level was actually 0.1 yesterday at pmps, I couldn't believe it. He is happy, running and playing with toys and the rest of the herd, and eating/drinking/peeing/pooping well. He does have some grooming issues, but that's cause he's too fat. He grooms what he can reach and I fight the fight to do the rest of him. So, BG numbers aren't everything, and I'm definitely saving for that fructosamine test since I expected the ketone level to be higher based on the BG numbers I've been getting lately.

Hope everyone is having a good week. Safe surfing to all the kitties!

I hear ya on fighting to groom them. I can only brush Ivy if she's sedated of she says it's ok for about 3 minutes, then NO GO!

Glad Jack is happy and playing and doing all the cat things with his herd! Such good news.
Kisses to Jack and the herd, Christine!:bighug::kiss::bighug:

Hi Christine :)
Jack is constantly keeping you on your toes :p He knew how to find the mama that will take good care of him
Fistuk and Prince love being groomed. I have a brush with thin metal brush and I think it really stimulates their blood circulation and perhaps what makes it so enjoyable.

I'm sorry to hear he had some ketones. Do you give SQ? At such low level that could be very helpful to flush the, out (those little buggers).
Sneding you lots of love and deep breathing :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ironically, a neighbor actually found him drinking from his heated pond in the middle of the winter, picked him up, carried him across the street, rang my doorbell and said something to the effect of; this cat has been hanging around for a week and I know you rescue cats, so here's another one for you, and then handed him to me

Jack hates all kinds of brushes/combs....I do have some that enjoy being brushed though. I'm happy Fistuk and Prince like it so much.

I don't give the subQ unless his blood ketones go to 0.8 or something. First because he is a BEAST about it and I have no help, and second because after many conversations with a few different vets, it seems that if I was testing his urine they wouldn't show up at that level ( I use a blood meter) and they both insist that some ketones in the blood are normal. I do have the fluids on hand at all times though and if I see any funny symptoms or the level goes up I do my best to get them into him

That's good to know! I test urine and was considering getting a meter but with what you said I won't because I know that any trace of ketones Will put me into a spin of anxiety. I've lost enough weight since Fistuk got sick so we don't need that :woot:
