6/5 Brat amps 301

Sorry no one was around. See how she goes …
Do you have to go out to work?
I’d leave some food down as the first half of the cycle will be influenced by the previous cycle

No worries. I was just a little scared after last night. She's still adjusting to insulin so it's hard to know the correct
direction.
I am home today so can test and make sure she's ok. Thank you

Patty, would you remind me what other medical issues she has and her age please? What medications if any does she take? Also was she taken off a steroid?

She is 16 years old and is 5 lb. with Triaditis which is concurrent inflammation of the pancreas, liver and small intestine. University of Georgia diagnosed her a few years ago. She's on Clavacillin 1/4 of 125 mg twice a day for the most recent UTI but was already taking 1/4 in the morning. She was additionally taking 1/2 of 5 mg prednisolone in the morning. I'm now weaning her off of the pred due to the diabetes. She is also getting Mirataz on her ear once a day for appetite. She has had liquid diarrhea for years and nothing helped until they took her off cat food. Dr. Bruno wanted her to eat only rotisserie chicken. I do grind it up and add taurine but did some research and order Smalls, but she only likes the chicken recipe. This is another reason I don't know what to do for high carb food since she can't eat cat food. She did gain weight when I started her on Smalls...up to 7 lb. then this happened.
She just tested 221 +4. I only gave a drop this morning because of what happened last night.
BB have to feed my mom lunch. My brother is sick and he normally takes care of her. It's always something!

Very helpful. We need to add some of this to your signature later but no hurry. Don’t give her other food. We can add honey or Karo if she needs carbs. There are several factors here that could be causing the temporary high bg readings. If weaning off prednisolone causes any issues you could try budesonide. Hopefully that won’t be necessary. I think tonight you could try 0.10 unless she’s blue and if so stick with a drop. You could also just stick with a drop as the depot needs to build and the higher doses might be in play. I’m sort of thinking out loud. Let’s see this cycle and how high she goes.

I haven't had any luck with the signature. I copied Blue's SS and put it into my profile in order to get it to take Brat's.

This is weird, I think....just tested +7 because I was going to feed her and just wondered what direction she was going. It's 85!!!
Is this strange?

The site was down and then I was trying to take a peloton class to take my mind off Chai who is not well. I think perhaps the UTI is clearing up and less prednisolone might be kicking her pancreas back into action. The low nadir is also from the higher doses. Let’s see her pmps.

No worries. A girl got to ride. What's going on with Chai? Tooth problems? or something else? Never fun having sick cats. They don't speak.

Brat is 130 PMPS so I'm thinking nothing but if you think a drop I'll do that. Doubt she'd need anymore. What say you?
Would sweet potatoes be a good carb for an emergency? Brat loves them.

Chai won’t and has been vomiting. She ate treats at 12 last night but threw up at 2 a.m. ate this morning but threw up. I figured I didn’t wait long enough after giving ondansetron. Gave her more at 3 and offered food at 4. Would not eat. Syringes but she wasn’t having it. I’ll try again when I feed Mocha. She got fluid’s yesterday but hasn’t helped. I was encouraged this morning but now super worried.

Oh no, that’s not good.I hope she’ll improve so she wont have to have a vet visit in her future.

Brat is at 301 this morning so I elected to go back to .5 and see how it goes. Today will be her last day to take pred and she's almost finished with her antibiotic. I'm hoping taking her off everything will help get her diabetes under control but nervous about how her body will react to not having support for her Triaditis. Poor baby girl.

Good luck. My late cat Luigi was a diabetic and on pred for a long time.

Just monitor Brat closely after the pred is discontinued, you may notice a slight drop in BG.

I presume you have been weaning the dose down, are you at every other day with the .25mg, or every third?

I was advised by my vet to go every other day with half of 125 mg for two weeks and then discontinue. You think I should continue and cut the dose down some and give every third day for awhile? She has been on it for years. I'm tending to agree with your approach.
Her BG has been all over the place. Vet wanted me to start with 1 unit and I think it would have killed Brat. I told her I wanted to try .5 twice a day and she said ok.

If her triaditis gets bad again, ask about trying budesonide as for many cats it helps and doesn’t spike the bg but of course for some it does .I hope it won’t be needed b

Good to know there's another option. Thanks. She's 252 pmps and I gave her .5
How's Chai? Did you have to go to the vet today?

Chai ate a little today and so fa4 hasn’t vomited. I spoke to my vet and he will fit her in tomorrow and has time late morning Wednesday unless she’s back to normal. So far she’s far from that. He’s going on vacation Friday afternoon so I will definitely see him. Mocha is eating well but her stool is softer than usual so I wonder if there’s an issue with Small Batch. Chai still might have a problem with her teeth too. I gave Chai primal today. I also gave ondansetron and zyrtec so will see what happens.

I really hate this for you. Everything you fed them, even the treats, were healthy choices. What a bummer.
I sure hope it’s nothing serious. I’m not familiar with ondansetron. What is it?

Ondansetron (zofran) is given fir nausea. Thanks Patty. This is really scary. Chai won’t eat baby food or two other canned vet foods I tried. At least she ate some Primal pork today.

If she likes chicken try plain rotisserie ground up and add water for hydration. Have you added tuna juice to the food? Sometimes you have to syringe feed until they get better. Hope she won’t go too long without eating.

I tried to syringe feed but it was a disaster. My foodie will eat anything cat was not having that. She’s not eating well because she’s still nauseous. Hopefully she will continue to eat.

Sorry but I tried over and over again to get a BG reading for Brat. Her poor ears are bruised. Maybe Blues were also but I couldn’t see it with his black ears. She had plenty of blood but it would not run up that stick. WTH

Mellow yellow. :cat:

No vomiting so far. Stool loose this morning. She ate twice but took a long time. She usually finishes in a minute. I just gave her ondansetron so will feed her in about 20 minutes and see what happens. Feeding is hard now because if I close the door to keep Mocha from her food it causes Chai to stop eating. She never cared before. Still a little better each day. I’m going to take her to the vet tomorrow only because he leaves for vacation Friday afternoon so I need to find out what to do while he’s away. The other vets there are not good. Thanks for asking.

It’s good she’s eating. There have been many times I’ve had to feed separately. Figuring out where to put them that they’ll be happy is a struggle. I’ve still got baby gates in my garage. Maybe try a barrier where they can still see each other if you still need to feed them apart. Probably a good idea to go ahead and see the vet. Mine almost always get sick on a weekend. ERs are expensive.

Brats doing okay. Frustrating trying to get blood. Her poor ears. I’m going to go back and read how to do it and hopefully pick up some tips.

Nothing to report. I didn't shoot her this morning because is was 140 AMBG
but tonight it's 225 so I gave her .5 PMPS. I'm not being aggressive because
she's undergoing so many med changes. Plus she's so tiny it's rather scary.

@tiffmaxee any good news today?

I think you should try .25 and see if she can get it every 12 hours.

Chai ate this morning but not when we came back from the vet and not tonight. This is getting scary.

Yes, I'd be worried too. I guess the vet did blood work? Were they going to call you with results tomorrow or will it be back?
Does she drink tuna juice water from a can? I'm sure you've probably tried everything at this point. I know I did when Blue
stopped eating. Are you using an appetite stimulant?

I'll try a .25 in the morning. I noticed this evening her back legs were slipping on the hardwood. I don't think it's kidney
disease because blood work didn't show it. Maybe just arthritis. Dr. told me they have a new feline prescription for that.
It's an injection given once a month. I'm not sure if Brat needs another medicine in her system. Poor baby.

He didn’t run a cbc because she stopped vomiting and her stool was normal she was also starting to eat. I might need to take her back again tomorrow for it. :banghead: He was thinking she’s on the mend. So was I.

Probably a good idea to take her back since I think your vet is going out of town, right?

I started Brat on .25 today and have given it this morning when she was 321 AMPS and 171 PMPS.
She's been lethargic all day and moving from bed to bed. I think I'm going to give her pred in the morning. Maybe only 1/4 of 125 mg.
She's been on it so long that I fear she's having a hard time getting off of it.

@tiffmaxee checking on you and Chai :bighug:

I’m really scared. I saw my vet yesterday so no more appointments but I am going to make one with a different office suggested by my neighbor is possible fur next week. Hoping the appetite stimulant will get her to eat her regular food and her tummy will settle down.

Do they have any idea what it could be? So scary for you. I hope she'll eat today.

I think so far the .25 is a good dose for Brat.

I think.25 for now makes sense too.

My vet has given me no answers. He just seems to think she will snap out of it. She ate a little this morning and I added pumpkin and water so hopefully it will stick and she want have more diarrhea. She’s sleeping on me right now as I attempt to drink my coffee. If not I’m going to try and see another vet next week. I’m so uncomfortable sitting here but don’t want to disturb her, lol. I am going to pick up an appetite stimulant today.

Yes, I get it not moving. LOL I hope the appetite stimulant works. She's not vomiting is she? It's so strange.

Brat is 230 PMPS and was much more alert today. I have her 1/4 pred 125 mg. I think it helped. I'm worried about her eating enough. Even though she's on an appetite stimulate she's only eating small amounts. Freeze dried minnows is a hit however. I have been giving them after testing and shooting. She also likes freeze dried shrimp. I might get some.

Have you tried any freeze dried treats for Chai? Sure hope she starts getting better. Not pancreatitis?

She’s not vomiting but very soft stool. She ate salmon treats. I thought that might be causing loose stool. I bought sardines in water salt free and out some on her food and also pumpkin. Hopefully that will work. She’s at her dish forever but doesn’t eat much. I keep pushing the food around and she goes back. She ate three times today so that’s progress. Just gave her mirataz for the first time a little while ago. She’s bright and active, not lethargic at all. My vet often mentions pancreatitis when I haven’t thought cars had it but not this time.

Glad she’s eating some. That’s progress. Maybe she is on the mend. The appetite stimulant should help.
