we've been wondering: is 6U a big number?
meaning, should we be looking at other possible issues in addition to fd?
When cats get to 6 units, we do suggest you think about getting them tested for acromegaly and IAA (insulin auto antibodies). Cushings is another possibility, but less common, and there are often skin issues associated with it. The acromegaly and IAA tests are blood tests, and both go to Michigan State University for testing. One in four diabetic cats has acromegaly, it's not uncommon, though vets used to think so. A recent 2015 study proved otherwise. Not all acrocats have larger doses, but once a cat goes to 6 units, there is usually something else causing that insulin resistance.

kit finally gave us a chance to shoot green again.
11.5 102, PMPS 94

so now we watch to see what fun she has ready for us this evening. bounce? slide? dive? who knows.
since there's no birdTV at night, she has to get her entertainment where she can ...

Happy to see Kit had a green PMPS. :D

From earlier post on my condo you said :
"been thinking about you and claudio as you try to keep those pants together while the depot fills".
Thanks.
As you know it is worrisome when they get up to 6U. Seems they keep changing the steps in this dance.

ok, kit is due for blood work. we'll add it to the list.
what about dental?

Shoot low equals stay low. :D

If there is a serious mouth issue causing inflammation or infection, that can also be like insulin resistance.

and would that be the kind of issue that we wouldn't be able to notice easily?
i mean, she's using her mouth pretty well for all the expected things ...
mani/pedi being the example of the moment.

Get the vet to take a look in the mouth when in for bloodwork. And you are right, some things cannot be seen by eye, even the vets, and need an X-ray.
