7/29 Cheeto AMPS 109

Okay, so after a high PMPS of 482 last night, a +2 364, and a +9 187, Cheeto is at an AMPS of 109.
I know I messed up yesterday morning by not shooting, but I had to work and panicked she’d dip low. But lately it seems her NADIR is hitting at 12 hours instead of a +6 or even a +8.
I’m off today, so I hold out on her breakfast retest? Do I just skip?

Yes, you can always stall without feeding and test again in 20-30 minutes to see if the number comes up...you can even stall again for another 20-30 minutes if you're still not sure but we don't usually recommend stalling more than 1 hour total because kitty wants their food!...and by not feeding for too long, the numbers may start to drop.

Anytime you're going to be home to test and have all the supplies you need, I'd go ahead and shoot. YOU are in control of Cheeto's blood glucose as long as you are able to test and have plenty of supplies like strips, HC food and Karo/honey/syrup

If 1U is dropping Cheeto too low for you to comfortably shoot, why not try .75? We need to find a dose you're good with giving every 12 hours

Thank you for responding! So, I did end up retesting at +1 and it was 138. I skipped again, have continued testing throughout the day, and she's bounced again. So I will definitely drop the dose lower than 1 Unit. It really made sense to me when another member of the FB page told me I am looking at the wrong end of things, I was focusing on the high numbers and trying to drop instead of focusing on the low numbers and trying to balance. I really want to find that happy dose that allows me to shoot twice, as I know that is what is needed. I am learning so much just in the last several days. I have felt like I was running blind after the switch to Lantus.

The Sticky Notes are super helpful too, but the human interaction definitely makes this much easier to navigate. Thanks again!

And yes, Cheeto was none too pleased with me withholding her breakfast while her siblings ate. She yelled all morning!

yeah, but keep reading them...even after all this time, every time I read them I pick up something or clarify something in my own knowledge

Frankly, at first, they can come across as a bunch of gobble-de-gook so it's good to have somebody put it into more understandable language with simpler terms.

I will, for sure. Every response I get helps put the stickies in perspective. The lightbulb goes off and I am sitting here reading again saying "huh, that makes sense now!"

See....there I would have definitely encouraged you to go ahead and shoot because going from 109 to 138 is a pretty good sign that the last shot is wearing off so it's OK to go ahead and shoot, especially when you're home and able to test.

Another important thing to understand is that you're not shooting the number he's currently at...you're shooting the number he'll be in 2-3 hours (after he's eaten). Lantus doesn't usually start to "kick in" for 2-3 hours so it's important to remember that although he might only be 138 right now, but you're going to be feeding him which will bring his numbers up even higher before the shot you give starts to work.

ooh, gotcha. I will remember that for next time. I wanted to shoot, because I knew she'd spike back up, but I just hesitated. I thought it would have been okay to do, but then I second guessed myself and am paying for it with high numbers now. I will be doing a dose reduction, and not second guessing myself on shooting the lower numbers. Dang it! I am kicking myself for not going for it.
