The vet heard back from the veterinary pharmacologist on her board. He validated the concern about interaction between Omeprazole and Methimazole, both being bone marrow suppressants, with Methimazole the more toxic of the two. The vet would like me to taper him off Omeprazole. The pharmacist suggested that if it were necessary to give both, that sam-e would help minimize interaction. We were going to try giving that to Bear anyway, to help with possible cognitive dysfunction. It's on order. We are going to recheck T4/CBC/B12 in 4 weeks.
Thanks to Sienne, who was the person who first alerted me to the Omprazole/Methimazole interaction issue.
