hi all!

Navi Just had a pmps of 246 (yay and ack!!). I’m currently giving her 2.2u of vetsulin. Do I give her the full dose? I’ll be able to monitor as needed up until about +4.5-+5 until my sick self will prob need to go to bed (unless of course she’s dropping).

Thanks for any info!

EDIT: I did test and feed her about 20 mins early today because I’ll have to do the same tomorrow morning to head out for the day. Not sure if that makes a difference.

As long as you tested first (before feeding) that's a shootable number

Nice to see some better nadir numbers!!

I would plan on testing a few times tonight with as deeply as she dives

Yes she’s been doing better but those high Preshots kill me, so I was shocked at tonight!

I will go ahead and shoot and I’ll test every hour as needed.

Thank you!

Hi Mary,

I'd suggest asking your vet about easing down the dose a bit, especially after the recent 49 BG result. As you've seen, Vetsulin can really tank BG levels, even from the very high preshots you've been seeing in Navi - some drops around the 500 point mark! I've used Caninsulin (Vetsulin under a different brand name) and I considered it wise not to have nadirs going as low as Navi's been getting. I think it's better to have a bit of a safety cushion to allow for anything unexpected.

FWIW, I think some of the really high PS BGs you're seeing might be bounce-influenced after the big drops as Navi's system may be releasing extra stored sugars into the bloodstream to compensate.

BTW beautiful picture of Navi. :) How is she feeling/behaving?

I apologize! I’m just now seeing this!

I’ve been shooting 1.2 units starting yesterday as suggested by another poster from another thread and I’ll be calling her vet tomorrow because she’s either peeing on our bed our throwing up a lot of water (2x now). Not sure which it is (doesn’t smell like pee, but doesn’t have food in it). We just had to put her best buddy down last Tuesday. Calling to see what it could be and I’ll bring theneasingnofnhwr dose and the bouncing up to her vet then as well.

Thank you and so sorry for the late response!

I see those blues you had on the 1.2 u dose. You could try nudging the dose up to 1.4 u soon. You're getting a better BG range in your curve and there's a good margin of safety around nadir but there's a *little bit* of room to drop. She's still high at PS but that's not an uncommon response to Vetsulin. :)

How long does Navi go between meals? If it's too long then she might be vomiting due to build-up of stomach acid (based on the possibility of her throwing up liquid/bile).

Nah it’s pee. We caught her last night. Vet asked me to do a curve today and we’ll go from there- he’s thinking possible uti. I usually feed before her shot, then she gets a can 2-4 hours later (depending on if I’m home).
