Hello, I need to know how to go about changing my cat's feeding and insulin time because our work schedules have changed. The time will go from 7 am and pm to 9 am and pm. The vet told me that since he is a grazer and eats kibble (he hates wet food) I should give him an hour after eating before I give him his insulin. I need advice on how to do the change.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
To change the timing of the insulin injections you can either move the time 15 minutes each cycle OR 30 minutes once a day. So it will take several days for this change to be fully implemented.
How long do you have before you need the 9:9 schedule.?

What type of insulin are you using?
I’m not sure why the vet is saying to wait an hour after feeding before giving the dose of insulin unless the insulin is one of the older types that need food to be aboard before giving the dose such as Novolin N or Vetsulin.

-there used to be a "rule" about feeding twice a day. That's silly, it's fine to graze but as hard as it might be the kibble has to go. It's a question of low carbohydrates.
-either I've forgotten everything (haven't had a diabetic for over a year) or I'm missing something. I used Vetsulin/Caninsulin and the rule was do not feed for an hour before testing, then injecting, then eat soon so metabolization begins. If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.
Chau, you're new here so you should know we check our egos at the door. That's me, not you. When I need to be corrected someone does it, end of story. Something isn't making sense about this and I don't want to give you bad advice because I'm having a bad day.
