? Diabetes and Hypersthesia

The vet diagnosed Minky with feline hypersthesia her in June and gave her a steroid shot. I think that is what started her diabetes. It is starting to come back it seems. The vet said she absolutely cannot have a steroid shot under any circumstances which I understand. She mentioned that we could give gabapentin as needed. I just am at a loss trying to figure out one more thing. Anybody have experience with diabetic cats and feline hypersthesia? Advice?
 
Fwiw, gabepentin is used (among other things) to treat this in humans. A potential positive if you do end up doing this is gabapentin is also used to make cats more relaxed before trips to the vet, car rides etc.

Also, potential causes in man are too numerous to list but among them is diabetes (meaning it could be a chicken vs egg situation) and B12 deficiency (I mention that bc it seems all of our kitties on this forum have GI problems and that can lead to B12 deficiency.

I hope Minky gets better soon, and hopefully someone here has more knowledge of this in cats.

The vet ruled out all other issues. She was incredibly sensitive to be touched on the rear end of her just above her tail. She wasn't grooming well either. The vet gave her a steroid shot which helped, but then she got diabetes. The last few days again she has been very sensitive to me touching her on her body--she hisses/cries enough for me to know it bothers her. Also, as I have been giving her her needle, I have noticed a lot more sensitivity like it hurts. I was thinking probably the two go together. I tried gabapentin (oral) but that was a disaster. We are now going to try a transdermal version of it and see how it goes.
