Dosing Advice? Insulin doesn't seem to be helping BG levels

Hi,

Tigg had started taking 1.0 unit of Lantus on November 20th 2024, and was up to 3.0 units by January. He had been doing well with it and went from numbers in the black to ones in the green. I decreased his dose to 2.7 units on the 5th after talking with his vet. I was starting a full time job on the 6th and wasn't able to stay home anymore to monitor him. I'm glad I did because I learned Tigg won't eat much if he is home alone. He would wait until I get home from work to finish his breakfast. If I was going to work, I wouldn't shoot when his AMPS was blue, since I knew he wouldn't eat throughout the day. Then I had to stop giving him insulin mid January after I got really sick and ended up in the hospital for a bit.

I was able to do a curve on him for the vet Feb 22nd, and it was pretty much a straight line. Even after I started giving him Lantus again two weeks ago, it still doesn't seem to be varying throughout the day. Since starting him on insulin again, his numbers have only been going up instead of down.

I don't know why is his BG slowly getting higher. It doesn't even change much more than 1 or 2 mmol/L after meals.

Should I increase his dose? Is this batch of insulin a dud? I don't know what I should do.

Hi there I would put a ? In your title to draw more attention to it
I would put
? Need dosing advice Insulin doesn't seem to be helping BG levels
Tap on the word Thread Tools to the right then tap on Edit Title and add that then tap save

I'd encourage you to take a look at the dosing methods sticky note at the top of the Lantus forum. You're really not following a dosing method which may be why Tigg's numbers aren't moving.

Because Lantus is a depot type of medication, whenever you skip a dose, it has an effect on the depot. This, in turn, can have an effect on numbers. Also, you need to let a dose stabilize.
