Low Carb Wet Dog Food?

I didn't know where to put this, so I hope this is okay. My cat, Max, has remained OTJ for months now and is doing well on low carb canned cat food. I have recently switched all of the cats to this food because we had another cat pass away from FLUTD right before Christmas. That sealed the deal for me...no more dry cat food for any cats...period!

Anyway, we just got a dog. This dog is used to grazing all day and hardly eats more than a kibble at a time. However, Max has discovered his food and can eat much more than he can. ohmygod_smile I try to feed the dog twice a day now while the cats are in the garage eating their food. However, this dog just does not eat fast enough. And if I lock him in another room to finish, he will completely ignore his kibble and whine at the door instead of eating. He will, however, gobble up the cat's wet food if given the opportunity (big surprise, right?)

So I was wondering...Is there any low carb wet dog food that I can feed the dog that wouldn't effect Max if he sinks his greedy little teeth into it? Since the dog wolfs down the wet cat food, I am hoping that he will do the same for the wet dog food and leave behind no trace for Max to get into later...but since you never know...I've never fed a dog wet food before so I have no clue how well they like it and what brand, type is good for them. Any ideas or suggestions other than getting rid of the dog or locking Max away in the garage all day (which I would never do anyway)?

Well while not exactly low carb dog food, I had the nearly the same problem with our dog and our diabetics except that ours would never eat much of any food. The answer we came up with is that King (our drooler) is fed twice a day, he gets 2 cups of Beneful dry mixed with 1/2 tub of Beneful prepared meals while either myself or my husand stand guard over the dog while he eats.

What I found when looking for a canned food that was low carb food for the dog was that there was very little at least in my area that didn't contain some kind of gravy or was way too expensive to feed a 97lb dog. I do know that Wilderness makes a dog food as well but for his weight I would have been feeding him 6-8 cans a day. And with those cans running about $2 per can it just wasn't feasible for us. (same reason I feed 14 cats on Friskies pate rather than Fancy Feast). Now that might be an option if your dog isn't a big monster like mine.

With King it just came down to finding a food or combination of foods that he would eat and eat quickly enough that the cats couldn't get into it.

There's a list of canned dogs foods on the Pet Food Nutritonal Values Chart It starts at page 6, after the canned cat foods.

Nature's Variety Instinct's canned dog formulas are the exact same thing as the cat formulas, taurine included. That's something you can feed to both the dog and the diabetic cat and not worry about the diabetic's blood glucose levels.
