The ketone Question?

You know, I think I am a pretty good helicopter cat Dad; I test his blood sugar 4 times a day, am consistent with injections, vet appointment, his diet, his liter . But what I don’t do is test for ketones because it is difficult with those sticks . Mikey gets offended when I do that.

So how often do you folks do this and how? Do you use a meter? And if they do have ketones what do you do? My guy had them when he had a UTI, I am feeling a tad guilty for not doing this!

Hi Mikey's dad, I am also a helicopter mom, but, I am an Obsessive tester every two hours, even as regulated as Corky is, I have tried to only do Pre shots and maybe 2 during the day, I can't, so you are just a drone for now! You are so much relaxed than me even after all these years and yes you can purchase at Walmart a Ketone monitor KETOBM kit for $ 27.99 include the monitor, case, strips, lancet device and lancets; and I am sure Mikey is proud do dad, You Got this!!!

Any human ketone meter is fine. If Walmart isn't convenient, check on Amazon. The ketone meters work just like a hand held glucometer. The only difference is that the strips are expensive.

I have the KETOBM one and the CentriVet Blood Glucose and Ketone Meter. Basically, it was the snow-pocalypse when I ordered them, and I wasn't sure which one would come first because the mail stopped from the storm, and nothing was arriving when it was supposed to. So now I have two. I like both. I think the KETOBM (human meter) might be more sensitive, and it is easier to use. It uses less blood.

Sometimes Kobe gets a really big blood bubble from his ear stick. I can get a blood glucose test and ketone test from the same big blood bubble if I am fast and do it before he flicks the blood all over the couch and my face.

I tested for ketones when BG numbers were on the high side or behaviour was off. If ketones are over trace, that should be a vet call. More into here:
