Today Tucker has no appetite. No interest in food, not even tuna. He seems ok, purring and cuddling. BG seems high today too. AMPS 467 +5 409. I'm not sure what to do.

Youre on track the same as yesterday, no? Was he refusing food yesterday?

I agree with Kel on those mid cycle tests.

Is he smelling the food and then not eating or licking his lips like he’s nauseated? If he is, you need to try an anti-nausea med. do you have any? You should be able to call the vet and pick it up. Either Cerenia or ondansetron, which is actually a human drug and you can get at any pharmacy with a prescription.

Yes, hes been vomiting today. I dont have any anti nausea medications. I'll call my vet and see if I can get that. Thank you.

He did eat when I got home yesterday, but, very little. I gave him a tuna treat when I was going to test him. He just sniffed it and growled at me.

Please keep us updated. Nausea and elevated numbers can be an early indicator of problems such as pancreatitis. Fingers crossed Tucker feels better soon!

Sorry Tucker's not feeling so hectic.

I see his numbers are a bit on the high side. With that alongside the eating issues I strongly recommend monitoring Tucker's pee for ketones daily for the time being as a safety precaution.

    Testing Your Cat for Ketones

    Tips for Collecting Pee Samples

Keep a close eye on him and if he doesn't improve quickly I suggest calling your vet for advice, and also getting him tested for pancreatitis. The vet should be able to offer a Snap fPL on-the-spot test which gives a +ve/-ve result for pancreatic inflammation. Hopefully it's not pancreatitis, but if Tucker were to be having a pancreas flare it's quite painful and the vet would be able to quickly provide pain relief and supportive meds to help Tucker eat better (anti-nausea, appetite stimulant).

Should you need it, you'll find more info here:

    IDEXX Pancreatitis Treatment Guidelines

Try to make sure he gets enough to drink: dehydration can make a cat feel crummy. If you pull up the skin between his shoulder blades it should snap back to normal within 2 seconds. Also you can check the gums: if they feel tacky that's another sign of dehydration.

Fingers and paws crossed your boy will feel better very soon.

That's the tricky thing with cats: they are masters of pain concealment. Not implying here that Tucker is experiencing discomfort but just keep an eye on the unusual growly behaviour to be on the safe side.

For general information, if a vet did run a snap fPL test and get a positive result then it's best to begin treatment on the assumption that the pancreatic inflammation is causing pain, even if there are no obvious outward signs of discomfort. Cats, eh?

Be sure to keep us posted on how Tucker's doing.

Just make sure your vet doesn’t give you an apetite stimulant only. If Tucker is nauseated, he’ll need anti nausea meds before he has the apetite to eat even with a stimulant. Both Cerenia and ondansetron are also anti-vomiting

btw, have you tried baby food? Like one of the Gerber meat only varieties? I’d typically will get Minnie to eat that even when she won’t touch anything else. Worth a shot

Yes tablets are fine. :) Sometimes kitties get the shots at the vet and then the tablets to take home. If I remember right 16mg tablets will be quartered to 4mg.

Yes Panic beat me to it ha! Shots are only at the vet. I’m surprised Chewy would have that as an option. I hope the Cerenia does the trick. Just know that if not, you can also try the ondansetron. Minnie does much better with the latter. It’s like she’s immune to Cerenia

Oh! They didn't have the injections! I Googled that drug and was reading the pamphlet that comes with the medication.
