Hello everyone,
I wanted to update you on Riley and possibly get some ideas from anyone who had this happen but first I need to thank everyone for their help. Riley remains in remission but was diagnosed shortly after as CKD so a whole new regimen was started to deal with that. I must say he went downhill fast, to the point that we were going to put Riley down. To give him a couple days of not being sick, I stopped the Clavamox and phosphorous binder, probiotics, cerenia, etc. I stayed steady with the Zobaline and potassium only. Sina suggested we get another blood test and that test indicated that Riley's numbers were going in the right direction and he was completely different at the vet's, not sickly. So we brought Riley back home and he has lead a relatively med-free life however, he is having difficulty walking on his back legs. I am trying to get his potassium level right and with the exception of the kidney infection which I just started him on Baytril tonight, he continues to walk down on his hocks. Any suggestions for that and his sudden aversion to his litter box would be very helpful. Thank you so much.

Hi Cherie.

I was just wondering about you and Riley last night. Thanks for the update.

I'm so glad you gave Riley another chance and he rallied. Are you still giving the same dose of Zobaline? I'm surprised he's walking on his hocks after being on it for several months. A potassium imbalance could certainly throw everything off. I see you got a test on Tuesday and he was still green, so it doesn't look like it's a BG issue. I suppose a kidney infection could cause him enough discomfort to cause him to have trouble walking, but I really don't know.

If he has a kidney infection that hasn't been treated for a while, I would suspect the pain could be causing both the walking issue and the LB aversion issue. Hopefully the Baytril will work, but it does take time to resolve a kidney infection.

Hi Cherie, was just thinking about you and Riley yesterday, it's great to see an update.
Your guy really is something else!
I'm sorry I can't help out with your question about Riley walking on his hocks again. I don't have any experience with that but Amy and Tricia's supposition about pain from the kidney infection certainly sounds plausible.
Wishing the best for both of you! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hello friends,
Relaying from Cherie that the reason she hasn't replied yet today is because technology has impeded her access. Soon as this is resolved she will be back here.
She updated by phone that Riley is so far accepting the Baytril well.
And she sends her thanks to you all, :bighug: and 'til soon,
Sina
