Does anyone have any first hand information about betacillin and it's effects on cats?

I've been giving my baby this twice a day for the past few days, she hates it. She has a UTI.

Yesterday I gave it to her and within an hour and a half she was spewing vomit. I freaked out and thought of hypoglycemia so, I tested her BG which was okay. She refused to eat and hid under the bed. I was able to get her to be playful as normal but she still refused to eat. Slowly, I was able to get her to eat a bit of a churu that I had left over from before switching her to the lower carb diet. She then ate like 10 pieces of "lower carb" kibble. She hid under the bed for most of the night until about 2 or 3 in the morning when she came out to use the litter box to pee but went right back under there.

Today she is much better, she's eating and drinking normally.

How common is this?

For transparency sake, she did eat before I gave her the med, she had about 3/4th of a 3oz can of Fancy Feast flaked fish and shrimp, like usual. I blend this up with some water for her because she doesn't like to eat the chunks out of it. I gave her the meds about 20 minutes after she was finished eating.

This is the same antibiotic known as Clavamox. It is Amoxicillin with Clavulanate Potassium and comes in tablets and liquid. This is a very effective antibiotic, but many cats cannot tolerate it. I have cats who will vomit badly and will not eat when taking this drug. I also have some who get severe diarrhea. I have a few who actually do not seem to have any side effects from this antibiotic. Clearly, your baby does not tolerate this medication. I would go back to the vet and ask that she be switched to a different antibiotic. I have had to do this before. There are other antibiotics suitable to treat UTIs and your vet should be able to decide upon one based upon the type of bacteria found in her urine. Personally, I hate taking this drug — for humans the antibiotic is known as Augmentin. It gives me massive, continual, heartburn that is extremely uncomfortable.

Thank you very much for this response, I've searched online and have read about symptoms but, I couldn't find any first hand accounts with it.

I have an appointment with my vet next week, I will definitely get a different antibiotics.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!
