Yup, 326 because the baby got some dry food last night and as a consequence, she was not even as hungry as to eat her breakfast. I think that in a way she tries to add the calories she needs and she cannot get during day when she eats wet food.

Injection? Not good, she seems really sensitive in certain places and she jumped to bite me, so it cannot be the insulin, might be me not relaxing her enough, maybe? Not sure, just tried to play with her and pull the skin up in different places. She jumped at me again, but it might be because she would assume the injection is coming. So, I will try to make a habit of playing with her and pull her skin gently and give her a kibble for reward so she will not associate that with the injection only. Also, I do the injection after she eats because I need to hold the bowl for her, she would not eat otherwise. If you have suggestions about things I can try, I would love to hear them.
But I think that Levemir is a better choice for her in the future.

@Olive & Paula I wish I can feed her more often but with my schedule I consider myself lucky if I can come home during lunch to feed her. I think I will try to make sure she gets 4 meals a day and give her some kibble with her wet food, maybe I can avoid the night cravings she has for dry food. Besides, if given along with the wet food, I can decrease their number in time much easier.

Also, I am trying to make her drink more water so I am considering the Pet-a-lyte because it has chicken taste:)

Thank you all very much for the insight. It definitely felt better knowing you are around.

How about automatic timed feeder?I

Do you use short needle?
Yes, I use the short needle, but I think I need to relax her instead of just doing it immediately. I will try and see if I can put the can down and do the shot while she is eating.
The feeder is here, she would not touch it. Maybe that was the reason for the blues because she would not come to eat from it. Mike said she did not eat at all yesterday, not even drink water. Not sure I can leave her like this an entire day, from morning till evening because she will starve again. Maybe I will put some of the 40% carb dry food in that one to attract her.

My Bandit has also been squealing or cringing at the insulin shot. I find that she is more sensitive on one side than the other. This morning we tried injecting her with the bevel side of the needle facing upwards and that helped. She however, still squealed when we injected. I remembered reading that cold insulin is more painful to inject, so for the PM shot I brought the insulin in the syringe to room temperature by pressing my fingers on the barrel for a few seconds. That seemed to help.

Good point from @Bandit's Mom in case you don't know : The bevel of the needle always has to be facing upwards otherwise it will hurt, same for the testing lancets !
Pretty soon Chanel will see that shots are not painful anymore! You're doing very good Laura !! :bighug:

is the bit about cold insulin being more painful also correct?

Hi Laura, I think you should get an award for your patience and kindness with Chanel. I believe you mentioned in the past that she came from a difficult situation. I hope at some point she'll forget about those difficult times and will adjust to your undying kindness. I know with all animals there are four very basic things they all need - air, water, food, and shelter - in addition to love and protection - but basically those are the true requirements for survival.

I hope that at some point she will begin to eat on her own - as her appetite dictates.

Best to you in your transition to Lev. I really hope it helps.

@Ti-Mousse Not really, I forgot the dry food last night outside and now at +10 she is 386. We both have a guilty face :( :banghead:
I am using a lancet device, I do not think I can do the bevel thing because it is going perpendicular. But I hear you with the insulin injection. As for insulin itself, I always get it out of the fridge 30 minutes before the injection and warm it in my hands (I have very warm hands) for like 10 minutes. I will do the trick with the syringe warming as well. Any trick or detail as small as may be, it can make a huge difference.

@Bandit's Mom Definitely I will try the thing with the warming of the syringe. I was not doing that. Anything else you do and think it may help, please let know.:bighug:

@Sue and Luci Thank you very much Sue. It is true, her life may not have been easy, but she was loved and still is very much. The thing is that now being the 'baby' of the family and we being kind of old, she plays us big time. Now that we have the feeder, she would not use it, she simply sits in front of it and not doing anything. So, I am planning to put in it the 40% carb dry food. I know, it sounds crazy, but that is her favorite food (not sure that she likes it for taste but helped her tremendously with digestion issues) and maybe the smell will convince her to use it. She just needs to 'imprint' the feeder with her smell and make it her own. Then, I can replace the dry food with wet food or air-dried food that is lower in carbs and just get some ground of 40% on top of it to attract her.
She does eat on her own, the dry food (although if I am around she will meow for me to come and pet her while she is eating). I think the 'holding the can' is more of a ritual she enjoys because I re-arrange her food or point her to a piece of meat while telling her how my day went). It is a bonding time, maybe? Besides, she is more a secluded cat, age being probably another reason for her solitude. She does sleep during day and comes alive at night and you should see my hands all scratched and clawed. The night is our play time, but she likes to use her claws and enjoys the fact that I do not fuss over that 'small detail' of bleeding. Must be her revenge for the ear pricking

We were out shopping until now and we got some Wellness Core pate that I want to try with her, just chicken or turkey. I know she has no problem with either, so if I see the abdominal cramps again is probably just the fact that the pate consistency does not agree with her tummy. I want to try it because I gave her the Tiki Cat Mousse 2 days in a row and she does not seem to show any symptoms. Last night my husband thought she has muscle twitching, she was dreaming of running actually...you could see the paws moving, she was a total cutie.

LOL! You are NOT old! I'm old! Ancient of days here LOL!

I think that's a good idea - put something in the feeder that she finds irresistible! I think they're definitely a strange thing... and certainly different than 'mama's tender hands' - you might consider putting on some chain mail gloves for those play sessions...they're handy for cutting with sharp knives too :)

I'm not sure I'd be very happy about all that clawing ... I know they don't mean it...but ouch!!

I hope she adjusts to the feeder at some point - Luci runs when it turns - she thinks there's something tasty in there for her...most times there is...sometimes it's just empty - she will sit and look at it then waiting for it to turn again - she hopes - very soon - LOL!

Thanks for that Sue!:) It will probably help me when I'll need to care for Pepe after his eye removal next month! When he was a small kitten before we found him, he was probably very badly beaten and as soon as he sees a hand coming close :woot: all claws out and he's really fighting !:eek: You better look for bandages...! I always have to be very careful when I have people coming home! He'll have nail caps on for that time but if needed, I'll have your gloves!

PMPS 396! 3 freaking 96 WOW! I calculated how much dry food she ate in 24 hours: 5.75 g. Yup, just about 6 g, but true most of it in the middle of last night. If you calculate the 40% carbs, that does not count toward the PMPS BG. I am not sure, but maybe she just did not get to the right dose just yet with Lantus. Levemir is just 1U.
Injection time: did all that still cringing a little. Where do you guys inject usually?
I attached baby's dinner, but she did not eat like half of the chicken and did not even touch the dry food.

@Sue and Luci LOL, those gloves look awesome, but Chanel will never play with me if my hands are covered. But definitely those gloves are good to work outside so I will get a pair, thank you for the tip. I wish she would go for the feeder, we shall see. She has a favorite bowl with the face of a cat and ears and she does not want to eat the dry food if it is not in that bowl :)
I hope Chanel will feel better at the injection time.

Last week, Bandit jumped to 510 after eating 6gms of her sister's 40% carb kibble!!!

Looks like she’s flat or even headed up a bit. No need to test every half hour.

What gauge are the needles on your insulin syringe? I mostly shot below the shoulders. Neko didn’t like it elsewhere.

You could put catnip on/around the gloves to get her interested in the smell...she may find them very appealing :D
