Wow, today was Ivana's worst BGL day ever - so many reds  However, she went to the vet for another enema, so I guess some of it is stress induced. We had a 9am appointment (first of the day) and arrived 10mins early, but due to an emergency case running in the door while we were waiting for the vet, we didn't get in to our consult until about 9.30am - so a lot of time spent waiting for poor Banana Girl.

Anyway, onto the poop - this enema went much smoother than the last time, probably because it was more poop and less fur so was a bit softer and she wasn't so shell-shocked about what was happening back there. The poops closer to her tummy were softer due to the Osmolax we'd given her this morning and last night, so it's good to know that worked. The vet wants us to check for ketones due to her being so high (tested her today at 0.2) and it's possible that we might need to put her on subcutaneous fluids. We'll figure that all out if/when it happens.

The Poop Plan going forward is to keep her on cans for the moment due to the higher water content, give her pumpkin twice a day and Osmolax twice a day as well as Laxapet once a day. This is to get her back into the habit of pooping, because she'd just stopped trying to go once she had one failed attempt so we need to make sure she doesn't have any more failed attempts. She is eating well again, although tonight she wouldn't eat her can + pumpkin until I stirred it for her...

I'm glad that's done and she's all cleaned out. Paws crossed for good poop habits going forward.

I'm not sure raw has less moisture - I always add water anyway, but a raw diet with too much bone can be constipating. Eggshell calcium doesn't have the same problem. Not sure if you were adding raw liver, that's supposed to be a mild laxative too. But it's worth trying canned to see if it gets things working.

Ivana - down, gently please little one.

So far the fresh stuff she's tried is beef, chicken (poached), lamb and kangaroo. I'm not up to adding the eggshell calcium yet, trying not to add too many new things at once as Ivana is a creature of habit and change freaks her out (she once wouldn't come into our bedroom for days because we bought a new mattress!). Vet did mention slippery elm bark though which I bought the other week, need to get that happening soon I think.

Oh forgot to mention, vet also gave me the contact details of a herbalist/naturopath-type person who is also a vet (in another state though) as she thinks that natural herbs/supplements to support the pancreas and kidneys as well as the digestive system may help. I'll send her a message and find out what I can.

Glad to hear you got the poop issue sorted out with Ivana.
I agree with Wendy about the moisture in the raw food and I always add more water too.
What are you using for the calcium in Ivana's diet?
Hugs to you and Ivana

I'm glad the enema worked. I hope all the things you're giving her will keep her regular so she'll be able to poop. Sending prayers. :bighug:

So glad Ivana "got her clock cleaned" Hopefully the diet, pumpkin and Osmolax keeps her going and her numbers come down again.

I haven't looked into the moisture content myself, just going by what the vet said. Just did a quick google check and it seems the difference is small - fresh meat has a moisture content of approx 75%, and the cans she's eating at the moment vary from 79% to 82%. So it probably won't make much difference anyway. Once she's back to normal on the digestive front then we'll definitely try again, and probably introduce it more slowly this time - I think I might have rushed things last time.

Question for Wendy and Bron, when you add more water to the raw meat, how do you actually mix it? Wouldn't the meat just sit in the water?

Bron I'm not adding anything for the calcium yet - her levels were pretty much smack-bang in the middle of the normal range, so I haven't rushed into adding it yet so that there's not to much change going on at once. (On a related note, iHerb still haven't notified me that the taurine is in stock, so I'm just going to order everything else without it and get it when it's back.)

Oh nearly forgot, we're down to yellow!! Although it's been a pretty big drop from PMPS to +4 so I'll be setting my alarm tonight.

So glad the vet visit went well and she is cleared out. I hope that she starts pooping on her own soon! You are doing a great job :)

Sorry about the enema but glad she got the much needed relief. SEB is a great supplement but using it with pumpkin and the other laxatives might be too much. Although my guess is at this point though looser stools is better than no stools;) "Banana" girl is too cute and hope she comes on down today.

I feed Crystal raw minced chicken as well, I just add tepid water from the tap and mash it about with a fork until it becomes a soupy consistency, it all blends in easily providing the meat is minced.

Glad to hear Ivana has been "unblocked", she should feel much better.
