:( Maverick started off high again this morning, but this AMPS number is heavily affected by his early a.m. snacking on dry food. I missed the window by 1 hour - I couldn't get a true AMPS (no food 2 hours) before, since I'm trying to keep the insulin dose at the same time. It didn't sound like he was eating that much but, it sure does indicate how even a bit of dry is kicking his BG up. I hope the rest of the day evens out a bit with his a.m. insulin dose, poor guy.

I might try and just leave out some wet before bedtime, and no dry tonight if his BG number is ok at that time. I'm trying not to feel discouraged, but seeing that his BG was worse this morning than yesterday makes me worry for him. I'll check him +6.

Here is a link to your yesterday's post: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/02-aug-maverick-amps-524.181626/ Those links help us easily follow the history.

Getting that spreadsheet set up, will really help us help you to help Maverick. Here are the instructions. If you have difficulty, let us know, there are people who can help.

Getting rid of the dry, starting by removing it in the last half of the cycle, will definitely help the numbers. From reading yesterday's post, it looks like he got down to at least low yellows. That's probably lower than he is used to, so he could also be bouncing. From the New to the Group Sticky Note:
Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).

Thanks Wendy, I have the spreadsheet ready now (at least I think I linked it properly :)), still only a few days of testing reflected there. I'll stay home from work tomorrow and get some more BG tests. I did read up on the sticky notes, and wondered too if he was bouncing. At Dx, the vet sent out his blood for a fructosamine test, and it came back I think mid or high 400s. I usually get copies of all blood test results, etc. and have been so caught up these last few days, that I just forgot to ask.

+6 was 319.

The SS works great, good job. :) I would also mix up the tests a bit mid cycle. Not all kitties have their nadir or low point at the half way mark. Tomorrow's testing can help you figure out his onset and nadir, which will help you know when to test.

Your test data will tell us more than the frucrosamine.

+11 is 356.

Looks like not much of an increase from +6, and still in the 300s. I'll take it after our yucky morning start! I'm curious what the PMPS will be.
