Ravan had a seizure last night. I'm assuming that's why his BG is up so high. Or maybe it's just a bounce?

My vet has been talking with Cornell University animal health. He said they are using CBD oil for animals. http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/cornell-takes-lead-cannabidiol-research
Cornell takes the lead in cannabidiol research
Still wondering if CBD oil lives up to the hype, or if you’ll go to jail for recommending it? New research from Cornell backs the claims, and the federal government seems to be loosening the noose on veterinary recommendations.

CBD OIL has been proven to help children with Seizure disorder, so I'm going to start using it every day On Ravan. (He has been getting it a few times a week) I use Paws CBD OIL by the Stanley Bros. They are the ones that developed Charlotte's Web CBD for a little girl with seizures.
My vet said that it was a reputable Brand of CBD. He said you need to be careful because there were so many people selling it. He is now using it on his dog for arthritis

Ravan has Kidney disease. It might be the reason for the seizure. The meds for Seizures have serious side effects (as most pharmaceuticals do) My vet advised me to use the CBD. Ravan will be having blood work later this week to check his CKD.

Needless to say I'm very upset with this new development. He's been doing so much better with his Diabetes.

OMG! I'm so sorry to hear this. Poor little thing! And poor mama bean for having to endure that. I sure hope the CBD oil helps him.

Sending you hugs and prayers....:bighug::bighug::bighug: and healing vines for Ravan.

Hi Joy! I am so glad that your vet support the CBD oil and I hope it helps your baby. I hope you were able to sleep well last night after the episode. It is always upsetting to see something like that. I remembering rushing Ricky to the vet after he had a cluster of seizures in a few short hours........sigh.

Vines to you both :bighug:

I am so sorry to hear this about Ravan! How is he doing today?

It's good that your vet is working with you on this. You have tried so many things to help Ravan. I really hope this CBD oil is finally what will help him, once and for all. Poor kitty and poor mama bean. :bighug:

How is he now
How is he doing today?

Thanks for asking :) Ravan is eating good & acting normal. Does Bella still have focal seizures?
Ravan can't take meds because of his Kidney disease. CBD OIL is supposed to be OK I hope it helps.
Ravan never went unconscious just shaking his head back & forth & acting very frightened. It lasted about a minute or 2 but sure seemed a lot longer.

sleep well last night after the episode.

It's been a LONG time since I slept well! I get up every 2 -3 hrs checking him. What did they do at the Vet for your Kitty for the seizures?
Do you think Ravan's BG went High because of the seizure? Or is this one of his huge bounces. He's High all day & still hasn't come down .

Can Kidney disease cause seizures?
From what I read Yes, kidney disease can be one of the causes for a Seizure. I think it might be from Toxins building up? I'm going to have blood work done next week to check his Kidneys & if there is any infection.
He was doing so good with his bg lately. This was a big disappointment (and very frightening!)

Yes, his eyes twitch amd head shakes, only lasts for like, hard to notice his unless you are looking at him
Hugs to u guys and will be back up in a cpl hrs to see what my little monster is doing, I think it will be smooth sailing but never can tell

Do you think Ravan's BG went High because of the seizure?
I really don't know as my puppy with seizures wasn't a diabetic so I don't have a reference.

They did some testing on him to see there was a cause for the seizures. It was deemed idiopathic. No know cause.....it was just happening. They put him on Zonisaimide since his seizures were very short, maybe 30 seconds or less. Zonisismide ( a human drug, I get it from Costco, very cheap ) isn't as damaging to the liver as some of the other heavy hitters. He was on 1 pill twice a day. In the last 3 months, I reduced him to 1 pill once a day and he has not had another seizure. I will eventually take him to 1 every other day and see how that goes.

Too bad the Cornell research is only on dogs. CSU did research on CDB and dogs too. Why are cats always second? :arghh: They are different animals and what works for one might not for another. I hope it helps Ravan.

Any system stressor can increase the blood sugar.

@Wendy&Neko

According to Dr. Wakshlag, in addition to this study, his team is completing a pharmacokinetic and safety study in cats, and there are plans for additional studies on the efficacy of CBD oil in acute pain management, behavior management, feline pain and concurrent usage with chemotherapy in oncology patients—so stay tuned.

Wendy this is the first time Ravan's bg has gone up at +4 instead of down? +4 405

Is this a bounce from low Bg or from the seizure he had ?
