Max was hollering for an hour before ifs. No clue why. He drank a lot even though he got fluids yesterday and had the largest ball in his lb I've ever seen! Thanks for the vines and checking in with us yesterday @judytomlinson, @Tricia & Cinco & Harvey , @Tara & Ivana , @rhiannon and shadow (GA) , @Asrael , @carfurby, @Mandarin'sMom @Vyktors Mum , @pollydoodle , @suki & crystal , @Doodles & Karen , @Chris & China @Wendy&Neko. If the power of LL works I will be so happy! I hope I didn't leave anyone out! I should get the bw results today.
 
I just got off the phone with my vet. Max's kidney numbers have increased substantially. His BUN was 80 (last was 400 and creatinine over 4 (was 2.7 three months ago). No sign of infection but he is running a culture and sensitivity just in case something shows up. He's not concentrating his urine though so it most likely is progression of kidney disease. The culture will take a couple of days. We will recheck his kidney numbers in a month no matter what. He isn't acting like it's pancreatitis but that might account for the big increase as well. The test they run from Amtech showed elevation butty vet doesn't have much confidence in it. Not the best news. I'll get the full report emailed later.:eek::(
 
Did they say if his Phosphorus was high? Just wondering, because even when Harvey's BUN and Creatinine were elevated, his Phosphorus has stayed in the normal range. Made me wonder if sticking to lower Phos foods was really necessary.

Did the vet say how he wants to proceed with treatment, or is that something you'll talk about later? Sending tons of vines. Still hoping for a UTI (a sneaky one that's avoiding detection so far).

His phosphorus was 5. Something. It was 4.9 three months ago. At that time he wants him under 6 so at this time doesn't want me to treat it. Pretty big jump for three months.
 
In my experience, the initial labs don't always catch the UTI and it takes the culture to do it. Let's hope the culture shows a UTI!

Trix had a hidden UTI last year...enterrococous (I'm sure I butchered that spelling!). She was on ABs for quite some time (I think it was 4-6 weeks) for it. I have to admit we did not retest her kidney values after she completed the ABs since going to the vet causes her p-titis to flare, but I saw marked improvement during the course of treatment. And that's when her BGs stopped bouncing, too!

She also takes benazepril and gets daily fluids as part of her kidney treatments. I haven't tried Azodyl only because I didn't want to add another pill to the mix when she seems to be doing well, but I have heard good things about it, too.

My vetty has said that p-titis can cause kidney values to rise in some cases. Also, she said that about 50% of p-titis cases are caused by infection. So maybe Max's p-titis is playing somewhat of a role here.

If you want to add a phosphorous binder, I use ConSeal AIH (Bock Labs) to Trix's food - for her, she eats much better with this binder than with the basic powder. The only catch is you can only get ConSeal through a vet's office.

How was Max's BP? I know he's on meds for it...if they need adjusting, that can affect kidney values, too.

Hoping the best for Max and you! You have a right to "feel" anyway you do but try to go easy and give extra scritches to Max for us. :bighug:
