Not a great morning - patients in the geriatric ward were acting up. Hyde was tentative on the new food that she loved last night. I coaxed her to eat it and not visit anybody else's bowl. Immediately after eating, she puked it all back up :( Gave her a bit of the old food and she kept it down. Then she jumped when I was giving her shot so she only got most of it :arghh:

Earlier, I had found Jekyll's steroid pill from the previous morning. Little stinker spit it out when I was not looking.

Glad DH will be home later today!

Sounds like your morning is competing for crazy morning of the week! I hope the rest of the day is purrfect.

Sorry for the crazy morning. I hope Hyde got enough juice to keep her from going to high. I hope the rest of your day gets better.

Sorry Hyde is vomiting the new food....that is frustrating for you. Can you maybe mix it half and half with the old food for a while til he gets used to it?
Finding pills later on the floor is annoying! On two occasions recently I found a gelcap stuck to Sheba's fur.
Hope your day gets better

For dinner, DH gave Hyde the same food she puked this AM and she was not thrilled. He also did a +2 test and the meter said Hi. I broke out the BG + ketones meter I bought months ago and had not tried. It came back with a 0.1. I do not know how to interpret this reading. @Wendy&Neko, @Anne & Zener (GA), or @Sienne and Gabby, can you tell me if this number is normal or a problem?

I am using the Precision Xtra Blood Glucose and Ketone Monitoring System to measure the ketones. I did give her some more food and she is happily eating.

In the Where Can I Find? thread, there are posts in the 2nd half on ketones and blood meters. Take a look there. I'm on my way out the door or I'd look for you.

Also on the New to the Group? sticky, there is a link at the bottom on ketones and it has info that would be helpful.

Sending feel good vines to your sweet girl. And I hope you don't step in a hairball today or that would just be the final straw! ;):D

Good news! No worries! 0.1 is not a problem for cats.

When do ketones show up on a blood ketone meter such as the Nova Max Plus or Precision Xtra meters?

The latest published research/studies in cats indicate ketones will begin to show up at readings of 2.4 and 2.55 on a blood ketone meter:

Measurement of ketones - Weingart_J VET Diagn Invest-2012(1).pdf
Measuring ketones - JSAP_Zeugswetter - 2012.pdf

From some data collected by another member using a Precision Xtra ketone meter, your reading is in the normal range. The info that Jill posted comes from more rigorous research.
