Dive question: Girlie was 446@ +2, so the +3= a 194 point dive. But her AMPS was 373, so that would only be a drop of 79 points over 3 hours. But do we look at the last reading to establish whether it is a deep dive? So it's a deep dive from the +2 - right? I'm just trying to confuse myself, perhaps. :-)

Will start Levemir on Fri pm US time (Sat am Oz time). She's still on 1 Unit Lantus right now. I expect she'll go down quickly as she's diving determinedly on the current 1 Unit of Lantus and only stays up with the help of MC and HC food.

Fingers crossed; any tips or tricks or Levemir info, please let me know. Is there a "switching to Levemir" or Levemir-specific info page on FDMB I'm not aware of, I wonder? I did find these two posts: post 1 and post 2. Not sure if there are others. I'm particularly curious about how the feeding schedule needs to change with Levemir.

Max update: thanks for all your concern, everyone! Not so hot. :( One canine and several smaller teeth at front removed; had an infection that ate into the bone, so parts of his front jaw will remain permanently separated, but that should be ok. Cause of infection unclear: could be a tumour or result of a cyst; I'll know when the biopsy results come back. Absolutely superb vet dentist said I caught it very, very early, so that's good if the biopsy results are bad. Going to get him now and give him lots of TLC. Poor boy!

Hope everyone surfs safely and is happy and healthy...and all moms and pops get some sleep. :-)

Funny pic: why sleep in your own cat bed when you can barely squeeze into Girlie's, instead? :cat:

Awaiting your new Levemir adventure and feeling good things to come from the switch.

Poor Max, I hope he's feeling a bit better without those teeth plus pain meds right now. Paws crossed for random freak infection and nothing more serious. That photo is too cute! Cuddle buddies! :cat:

Most cats nadir later with Levemir, sometimes even into the +10 to +12 part of the cycle. You will just have to closely monitor the first few days to see how Girlie reacts and when she nadirs. Good luck with the switch.

Max is home and has eaten a bit. He gets injections now, too, of bupe ... Maybe I should hang out a shingle that says, "injections here! All cats welcome!" :-)

Come one, come all. Drugs at Darrah's house

What is the diagnosis for Max? Did you ever figure out what is wrong?

Something caused a massive infection that ate away at the bone in his jaw and did some teeth in; they're not sure exactly what, yet: cyst? tumor? I'll know if it's the big C early next week when they get the biopsy results. But he's home, he ate for me, he's lying on the verandah in the sun and making his chirpy "I'm happy" meows, and on drugs, so feeling no pain. That's good enough for me right now. :-)

Fingers crossed that he doesn't put up a fuss when I give him his bupe injection tonight...but I think he'll be good.

No tips that I know of starting Lev. Just put a blank line in your spreadsheet after the last day of Lantus, and put something like "start Levemir" on that line so it's easy to see the change. The first couple of days you'll be draining the Lantus depot as the Lev depot builds. It may or may not be easy to find the Lev onset/nadirs times. Be attentive, keep a good stock of coffee on hand. The first night on Lev, I set a few more alarms than I normally would have, just in case.

Good luck.
