Sure wish he would quit going quite so high between shots. Not sure what to do about it.

Vet called yesterday with bloodwork results. Anemia is worse she is going to get some iron compounded (the regular iron they give is mixed with corn syrup). The potassium is low(er) too and I have already started the Potassa-Chews. I wish she had told me what the phosphorus number was but she didn't and I forgot. I also wish I knew what the fPL # is.

Both the anemia and low potassium would contribute to his "wobbliness" and it does seem better since starting the Potassa-Chews.

She was supposed to e-mail me the lab paperwork but I still haven't received. I she did say that the SDMA is in the "normal" range and was really pleased about that (1st time in over a year)!!

Gizmo is doing really good. Loves the Potassa-Chews which I am giving as a snack after shots and along with the +9.5 FD snacks.

Any tips on getting the RBC count up? Would love to hear suggestion. She doesn't think it is anything to be too concerned about. She said that his body has a lot going on and is just having a difficult time producing RBC's with everything else going on.

Does anyone know if freeze dry beef liver would help? Does it have any issues with raising the phosphorus? I am not apposed to giving raw but don't have a good source.

Happy, loving, purry, great appy, regular poos!

Happy Caturday.:cat::bighug:

Hey Lizzie, glad that he like the chews. I don't have any advice to offer about the RBC and hope someone knowledgeable will weigh in soon.

I hope that once his wobbliness is gone and the anemia and Potassium is better that his BG numbers will come back down.

Wow, look at all those lovely greens! Splendid job, Gizmo, especially as you're not feeling 100%. :D

I'm so glad that you have a possible explanation for the wobblies, and that you're already seeing a change with the potassium chews: that's fantastic.

I know that chicken liver and goose liver are high in iron, but I don't know how much iron a cat needs to bump them up. Girlie would cross a (small) mountain on her poor arthritic legs for liverwurst; I give her a tiny, tiny amount as a treat sometimes if I've been particularly beastly to her with meds and stuff or if she won't eat her regular food and I need to know if she's just being picky or has lost her appetite.

I'll be curious to hear what more experienced people say.

Loving those greens! :D:D:D

Will be watching with interest as u gather info on RBC,
I did a bit of research. I am ordering these (Freeze Dry Chicken Hearts):

Chicken heart may be a better choice. It does not contain as much iron as liver (only two thirds of the amount in liver), but it contains much less phosphorus and hardly any vitamin A. You may be able to find chicken hearts at your local butcher. Most cats seem to prefer them cooked, some people cook them in the microwave, others roast or boil or fry them - you can experiment to see which method your cat prefers.

You've got a whole bunch of green going! :D:cool:

WOW!!!! Love seeing this.

Very nice run of numbers today.

Will be curious to see tonight and tomorrows. I am wondering if his nadir has moved a bit later than it was (it was running about +5.5 as near as I could tell.

I swear, I think Gizmo and TiTi are twinning up, but like on a seesaw.

For anaemia, you worry about the HCT, not the RBC. Gizmo's HCT was pretty good on the last bloodwork. Is Gizmo getting B vitamins?

Both liver and heart can be rich, so should be given in moderation. Why aren't you supposed to be giving raw? Neko would kill for a piece of freeze dried chicken or especially quail hearts.
