NYCACC killed 2 diabetic cats last week. Cassius was going to be the third. Long story short with 2 hours to spare we went and adopted him. He is currently staying in the closet in the bathroom. The closet door is open (no he's not locked in the closet) he oddly feels comfortable sleeping in the closet. I say "oddly" because that is where Doodle spent his last days. 20+ cats in the house and Doodle was the only one who "lived" there...until Cassius. If you believe in signs, I say this is surely a sign.

Anyway, Cassius was surrendered by his owner of 10 years on 11/19. He was diagnosed with diabetes in May 2015 but never treated. His BG on 11/19 was 329 and was started on 1u BID Lantus. That is basically all the info I have on him. His blood work had nothing out of range minus blood sugar and he was negative for ketones. I got him yesterday and luckily he is easy to test. His BG last night was 258, this morning 301 and at +6 today 454. Let the fun begin!

Bless you for taking in this extra sweet baby...seeing this just made my day. Thank goodness there are people like you!!! He looks just like my civvie, Zen!! I hope he responds quickly to insulin.

OK, now you got me tearing up. Big time thanks Jennifer. This boy needed a break and you gave him so much more than that. Will be watching you work wonders with this guy.

Looks a bit like Paula's Michael, too. A heart grabber all around!

Sign? No doubt.

I cannot believe you took him! I was almost in tears the other night when I read his story. You are an amazing bean for helping him out. Majorly big hugs to you! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh, Jennifer, what a truly wonderful person you are! I totally think Doodle made sure you got there in time to save Cassius. Many blessings on you for being so generous and kind. We'll look forward to getting to know your new sugar baby and watching him thrive under your excellent care!

I saw his story in the Facebook Diabetes group and was so happy to see he'd been moved to the "safe" file, but I sure didn't know how close he came to being #3! So happy you were there to give him the chance he needs to be a happy, healthy kitty again!!

Bless you for taking him in...Doodle is smiling down from the Bridge at his new earthly brother :) Good job, mama!!

Congrats on the new addition to your family and thank you for opening your heart and your home to this kitty. Poor baby must be so confused by all of the changes.

Bless you. I saw his story. So glad you saved him. I was trying to figure out if I could. But right now 1 is enough.

So happy you got there in time to save him! I too saw the information in the facebook group. Welcome Cassius; that's some amazing momma bean you have there!

That is so wonderful that you opened your home and your heart to another sugar cat. I will never understand how people can just dump their elderly or special needs animals at a shelter when they need their family the most. Bless you for giving Cassius a second chance!

That was a wonderful, kind thing you did adopting Cassius. He is a beautiful boy and I am so happy he has found his forever home with you! Bless you!

You saved his life:D:joyful::D I hope that his BG is easy to get under control. So glad you were able to open your home and your heart to him!

This just made my day. I am so glad he is easy to test and no doubt you will have him feeling much better very soon. He is so adorable!! Can't wait to see his progress.

HUGE hugz and kudos to you for taking in this boy. I agree with the others, Doodles would approve. (And probably, in some way, had something to do with it ;) )
Cassius is glorious!! What a handsome boy, looking forward to watching him get that bright eyed, "I'm in my REAL forever home now!" look on his face :D :woot::kiss:

Jennifer, you are an angel to rescue Cassius. His picture speaks volumes - he looks like a little sweetheart. Thank you for opening your heart and home to him!

What everyone else said - you are wonderful :) it's nice to have a tear of joy instead of the other kind for a change :)

Thank you all for your kind words. He is coming around, one day at a time.
