2nd blue AMPS in a row! Very happy for that. Asia had an itty bitty baby bounce last night, but she stayed in the blue for this one! Can't beat that! :)

Asia did a spaz cat run around the house this morning, I love to see that! Civvie Toki broke into the leftover cornbread (one of her favorite foods of all time) by knocking it off the counter and the lid broke open during the fall. I guess she had a good fill of it because she puked it up all over younger daughter's bed. I'm so thankful Asia wants nothing to do with stuff like that since it was all over the floor and available to her. If she had a nibble or two, it didn't show up in her AMPS, but she's not generally interested in people food, and certainly not cornbread. Toki somehow has a sweet tooth, even though they say cats can't taste sweet (I don't believe that for a second)!

Thinking of Jimmy and Texas Gizmo at the ER vets last night and this morning. Hoping all is well with them. :bighug:

Looking good Asia! That's a good girl leaving the cornbread alone. Gizmo took a crazy run this morning also. He's good at those. Although it kinda freaked the dog we are dog sitting out a bit. :joyful:

For those that use Marks pharmacy in Canada, is there a concern about the Lantus freezing in transit? I was thinking to order from there, but I know it's much colder up north already and was wondering if they have any provisions for shipping?

Good girl Asia for not eating the cornbread. @Osha kitty has a sweet tooth and Doodles IM vetty actually said cats do prefer sweet flavored meds. Love what Asia's doing and happy to hear about the zooming this morning :cool::D:D:joyful:

Asia is looking good. I'm glad she didn't get into the cornbread. Sorry Toki ate so much she threw up.

I've not had to worry about the insulin freezing. I've had to worry about it getting too hot. I think Karen's suggestion to call is a good idea.

Just give them a call, they are very helpful. Pretty sure they know how to handle the weather. I couldn't order in the summer months here in AZ because of the hot temps.
I'm just mind boggled over the price difference! If it's for humans it seems to be half the price (or less) than if it's for cats. I paid about $130 for one pen and if I can get a whole box for about double that, it would be great. My best friend is diabetic and she has tons of leftover she would send me, but she uses basaglar, which is a generic Lantus? As tempting as free is, I'm just uncertain about changing to something that isn't the exact same thing since Asia is on a roll.

And sweet toothed cats! How funny. Toki loves to sneak cornbread, cupcakes, pizza (crusts only), cookies, anything full of carbs, breadlike and with sugar. When we bake, we set items to cool on the coffee table in the living room so we can keep a vigilant eye! :joyful: We've resorted to using our microwave as a food safe since she can (and does) open all of the cabinets. Thought we were safe with the lock lid on the cornbread though, apparently not!

I haven't heard of a generic Lantus  Better off not going that route IMHO. Yes, Marks Pharmacy is a blessing for all our sugar kitties.

She is looking good and glad she didn't partake in the cornbread fiasco ( one of my favorites too!)

As far as the Lantus and freezing, it will be a concern but Marks watches the weather and will not send if they think it could be an issue . Another option for you to get the Lantus would be in the Supply closet. Alan sends from Texas and I have always gotten mine within 2 days. It will take much longer to get from Canada.

Asia is getting right to business!
Maggie used to love cornbread and other sweets. She also liked spicy foods. Yes, I admit it, I fed her people food all the time for years.
:joyful: She likes spicy foods? o_O I think it's only human to want to share food with them. I tried giving them chicken or other meats on the rare occasion we have stuff like that in the house, cat appropriate human food, but neither were interested (minus bacon, Toki does love bacon).

What is ironic is I would never willing give them bad stuff (carbs and sweets) and we used to joke with Toki "you can't have that! You'll get the diabeetus!" And Asia did end up getting it, despite being a good cat and not even liking carbs!

@Chris & China has experience with Basaglar. You could ask her about her experiences.
My friend was forced to switch from Lantus to basaglar by her insurance company, it's supposed to be the same, but I've read mixed things about humans being forced to use it and losing regulation. Definitely not a risk I'm willing to take since I have other options.

Just to clarify.. Chris used it on her cat. She didn't see any issues.

Tee, hee, hee.:p I live 25 minutes drive from Marks. Not all the country is the same. West coast is much warmer. Mid 40's here today. Typical November, except there is sunshine. :)

Asia - down girl!

I just don't know how they transport, it's already snowing in upstate NY so I would think it would have to go through some freezing temps even if not at the origin to get to me.

How nice that you live close! You never have to worry about getting insulin at a reasonable price, I suppose. Canada question, cheap insulin expensive test strips? I keep reading that meters/strips are less variety/more expensive for Canadians. Is that true? Seems so odd. We should have a US/Canada group trade, cheap insulin for cheap test strips! ;)

Marks puts a healthy premium on their insulin prices. It's much cheaper in the regular pharmacy. :) And yes, I cross border shopped for strips.

Its the same here in Spain, Insulin Cheap approx $70 for 5 pens of Lantus, but the strips are expensive $1.50 (approx) per strip. I ended up getting my strips on line from UK, worked out at about 16cents a strip if I ordered in bulk.

ETA
Fab numbers for Asia, I do believe she's broken her record again, nice long stretch in blue/green.

$1.50 per! That is outrageous! Glad you can find a way to order them elsewhere.

Thanks, I can hardly believe it myself. I fear for tonight's PMPS, but now that I know she can do it, I won't let a little bounce get me down. :cat:

It's funny, she's now a snoozer in YELLOWS! This and pinks were her happy place just a few short weeks ago and now she says no bueno!

PMPS 525, ugh! :banghead:

Mommy guilt: I feel like I did this to her with the BCS the other day. I know she will recover and I have my patience pants on...but guilt remains. :blackeye::(

On the plus side, her ears got a much needed rest today.

Maybe re-test? She's a champion bouncer but it's been a long time since she's seen those kinds of numbers, maybe it's just a bad strip?

If not, at least you (as well as her ears) can get a break tonight....

That looks like a bounce, or, as Nan says, maybe a bad strip!! The next time you get what looks like a wonky number, test again right away. Down you go, Asia!
Chris (@Chris & China ) used Basaglar for China for quite a while. She was participating in a trial when the insulin first came out. She found that there wasn't much difference in the action of the two insulins, but decided to go back to Lantus anyway. Perhaps she'll comment here.

If you're planning a vacation in Canada, be sure to buy insulin (as long as you can keep it cool until you return home). You don't need a prescription and the price is right (around US$ 110 for a 5-pack).

That's really neat that she got to participate in a trial. @Chris & China why did you go back to Lantus?

I don't think I'll ever go on vacation again (at least not while Asia is still with us), but my husband travels to Canada for work a couple times a year, is it something he could bring back on a plane or would they get weird about that at security/customs? Anybody know?

You could get a FRIO wallet for the short time he is on the plane. He can just keep it in his pocket and not mention it. A cooler or ice pack would call attention. (In the car, I just stick it in with my lunch.)
On second thought, there might be problems with the metal-detector wand? Probably not a good idea to risk it.

Mostly because I'd just gotten a new 5 pack of pens about a week before I was asked to participate in the trial.

If I'd had more Basaglar, I wouldn't have had any reservations about continuing to use it instead of Lantus
Thanks for that info, Chris. Good to hear when someone has first hand experience. I don't quite understand how it's a generic Lantus but it technically isn't? It's identical in some way, but the inert ingredients are different? I had just read a bunch of (human) user comments that said they didn't like it, they had to use more than with Lantus, and they had high spikes.
