December 12, 2019 - Reduction Earned

Good morning everyone!
Just thought I'd stop by with a quick Lou update. He's doing splendidly after his reduction. As a matter of fact, his numbers have been consistently lower than they were on the 0.75u, which has me thinking he'll be going down to 0.25u sooner rather than later. I'd love for another reduction to be an early Christmas present, although it's hard enough drawing up the 0.5u, I cannot even fathom trying to draw up 0.25u, haha. But I'll learn for my sweet buddy Lou. :joyful:

We're doing pretty well here, although I'm getting increasingly worried about my civvie, Bella. As you may remember, she had to go on liver supplements for 3 months after having routine labwork and while that corrected the liver lab results, she had lost nearly 3 pounds in 3 months without any changes to her diet. She's my dispose-all, but she's been rejecting food more and more even though she seems hungry. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it. She'll reject meals at some times and eat the same food at others. There doesn't seem to be a correlation with food types. For example, she'll eat Fancy Feast turkey and giblets, but won't eat Friskies turkey and giblets; she'll reject Fancy Feast beef, but will eat Fancy Feast beef and liver. It's all a crapshoot and just weird for her. We've tested her T4 and her glucose numbers were normal. I'm starting to really wonder if she needs a dental, which we can't really afford at the moment. We've had a lot of things come up with the house here and there, but I'm starting to wonder if it's a mouth/tooth issue that's causing all these problems. I haven't seen her paw at her mouth, but her mouth did smell when I had to give the supplement. I just wish money grew on trees or that we could win the lottery so we could do what needs to be done without thought. I'm torn on bringing her back to the vet since they were unsure what was causing the weight loss. I feel like I'm tempted to go more to check her weight again than to get their opinion. We'll see though.

I wanted to share a pic I took of Lou the other night. I was just randomly calling out for him when I looked over and saw him in his tree like this. Goodness I love this kid. :cat:

Love the picture of Lou. It's great to hear he is doing so well. I hope you can figure out what is going on with Bella. Maybe a vet trip to have them look at her teeth is a good idea because if may give you an answer even if you can't get a dental done right now. Sending prayers.

What an adorable pic of Lou.

Another possible reason for losing weight, in spite of eating well, is malabsorption of her food. In other words, a GI issue. Being picky can also be a sign. You could get her B12 and folate levels checked. The better diagnostic is an ultrasound.

Lou is certainly looking gorgeous!!! What a guy!!

I sure hope you find some answers for poor Bella's eating problems...hopefully the other members have some suggestions for you :)

Take care Amanda! Miss seeing you here every day...
