I had to be out this morning.

Uummm. He has a green at +6. Is this OK please or cause for a bit of concern?

Thanks about the OK for snacks in between. I think this will make him a happier cat and I will be careful of the fasting tests.

Yes. I'm absolutely trying to work out what & how I can feed Ty his best diet possible after what I read on here. Both for his Diabetes & stage II CKD .

I can learn to do a home diet in time, or is that given time, but I think we also need back up canned wet food of the right sort as if Phil needs to do this for whatever reason then it needs to be easy and simples.

Gently trying to see if he will accept a bit of raw meat ( chicken/venison) given his now insatiable appetite. So hungry , therefore less picky.

@Bron and Sheba . I printed off the home made diet yesterday but don't see where pumpkin comes into it. Does it ?

Yesterday.

edit.... as suggested will start a new topic about constipation. Thanks

The 90 is great! You want those numbers, it's just jarring to see them for the first time. :D

I hope you figure something out for food. It seems to be a big enough pain for people in the states and it sounds like you have even less choices there! Making your own food could be a great solution, but I totally agree, it would be nice to have a standby that you can go grab and feed (guilt free) should you ever need to for so many reasons. I was just reading some posts yesterday about someone who was in Switzerland and mailed ordered food by the case from another country because it was hard to get exactly what she wanted where she was. I don't know what shipping costs are like there or if that is even an option for you, but just putting it out there.

Lots of cats around here seem to have constipation issues. :( I don't know if it's FD related or what, but you can always change your title and put up a question mark about constipation solutions and I'm sure you will have many people weigh in for that. :cat:

Green is wonderful and scary the first time. At +6 and a higher green number gives a lot more comfort.

Hopefully, Tyler will take to raw feeding.

Constipation is always an issue at my house. I add 2 tbsp. of water to every mini meal Bubba and his brother get ( they are fed 6 times a day) the extra water helps. Also some Omega 3 oil is helping my civvie cat. Can you get pure canned pumpkin there? A tsp twice a day helps too. Also, Egg Y0lk powder if there isn't any kidney issues.

Giving all wet food and or raw and getting off the dry will help also.

After the +5 I gave Ty a bit of a snack of his food.
Q for me . Did this effect the following test or did his body react to the green .

Can someone help me understand why Ty went from Green to Pink ? :-(
I don't understand.
Now 214. Have I destabilised something somehow.
It is perfectly normal for a cat whose body is accustomed to high numbers to react to a low number by going back up. This is called Bouncing.
Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).
So you are not doing anything wrong, and there is no need to be concerned.

@PussCatPrince
The pumpkin has nothing to do with the homemade diet.
Pumpkin is really good for both constipation and diarrhoea in a cat. We don't have canned pumpkin in Australia and I am guessing you wouldn't have any in NZ either.
I just cook up a batch of butternut pumpkin ...or any sort is ok. Just boil it until cooked, mash it....nothing added at all....and freeze in ice cube trays for future use. Can give a teaspoon a couple of times a day for either diarrhoea or constipation.

I agree with Tricia......you are not doing anything wrong. What Tyler is doing is perfectly normal. You and Tyler are doing really well!

Thank you everyone. I think the green to pink swing spooked me. I don't know why. It isn't as if I'm not reading on here every chance I get but I really wasn't expecting that. I thought yellows. Not a pink. It didn't spook Tyler though who just wanted his tea.
