AMPS 389 on Day 3 of Levemir; the Lantus should be almost out of her system soon.

New Poo issue: poo streaks on bed sheet (diarrhea?): Last night was the second time I've noticed poo residue/streaks on my sheets, but this time it was pretty unpleasant: I got up to go to the loo, came back, flipped the covers back over me and Girlie (who hadn't moved), smelled poo, and discovered streaks of poo on the sheet and inside of my blanket - and then on my arm. :( :rolleyes:

Checked the LB: no poo. It seems that she's - how can I put this? "Leaking" on occasion, both pre (once, again on the sheets - more like an "I couldn't clean my bum" thing) and post-pudding poo on 11/11.
  • 11 Nov AM: a lot of way too soft (pudding) poo; didn't give Miralax in pm
  • 12 Nov AM: reduced Miralax to 1/8 tsp; PM: Miralax 1/8 tsp but no cisapride; poo streaks/residue on bum and sheets, not LB
  • 13 Nov AM: no Miralax; no Cisapride

I'm not sure whether this is a result of too much Miralax; the Cisapride; or a new feature in our lives. o_O

No vomiting other than immediately after pudding poo.

Other symptoms:
  • Nauseated (?): Has been licking her lips off and on for days; Cerenia on 11/11; Ondanestron (Zofran) 1/4 of 4 mg wafer first time on 12 Nov pm
  • Lack of appetite: Not eager to eat again; on Mirtazapine compounded liquid; will eat more when given the capsule instead
  • Pancreatitis (?): Spec fPL of 5.7 last week but no meatloafing or signs of pain in abdomen; has arthritis, so that makes it hard to distinguish new pain or discomfort.

I did introduce a new Cats in the Kitchen 8% food on 11/11/ pm, but she hasn't eaten much of it, so going between that and the 8% Wellness Core she's no longer interested in.

But how do you get it ON her tongue? When I open her mouth, her tongue starts moving like a mad thing; I have no idea whether I got the 1/4 wafer of Ondansetron on her tongue or not. :-) Any tips on this?

You are just full of interesting phrases! Adding "dingleberries," and "clinger-ons" to my cat dictionary. She's leaking, not butt scooting. She's never done a butt scoot, but we have had dingleberries in the past, and now I know what to call them... Did you have any of this (leaking) with Gizmo with his pancreatitis episodes?

Thanks for that! Girlie is older and has arthritis, so it's not like she can leap up out of a comfortable, warm bed and make a dash for the LB anymore. She does try to clean herself up, but - frankly - I'd rather do it for her with a warm washcloth than smell poo breath...eww! :woot:

I'm not sure where we are on the pancreatitis scale. Her Spec fPL was 5.7, but that's just over the 5.3 end of the normal range. She's not meatloafing; doesn't have any abdominal pain; but she has been licking her lips and seemed nauseated. We're seeing the vet again on the 15th, so I can ask about a number of things including these leaking episodes. Vet doesn't seem inclined to do anything about the pancreatitis/not pancreatitis so far.

Because she had the nasty puddle poo two days ago, I wonder if the leaking could be a result of that, too much Miralax (so poo too soft), and the Cisapride...?

I'll ask about the Flagyl if she's still leaking by Wednesday. Boy, I hope we don't go through this again tonight! I might stock up on some cheap shower curtains to put on top of my sheets; easier to clean than the entire bed, perhaps... there's no way to keep her from cuddling unless I put her in another room, and I don't want to do that.
 
Great update on Max! No idea about the bupe, I tried to use it with Bronx but he fought me hard to get it in his cheek pocket. How do you administer the bupe to Max?

I got a quilted waterproof mattress pad (they are for human incontinence) it's soft like a blanket, washable and reusable but is waterproof and I put it on top of the blanket where Asia sleeps. I don't use it all the time, but I got it just for the reasons you described. Had a terrible diarrhea and vomiting spell with her about half a year ago and I was washing my bedding, myself and giving Asia baths more than once a day! It comes in handy and saves a lot of work.

The bupe initially made him dopey - but then it's like he became energised/wide-eyed "I'm on DRUGS!" cat. Can the bupe do that to some cats?

That's awesome about Max! Yay! And yes, they can totally get like that on bupe. Asia had it at the ER for a terrible UTI and she went from lethargic to saucer eyes "I'm having the best day of my life and I want to love on everybody" in under 20 minutes! :joyful:

I've been debating all morning re: the food carb % to give with the start being pink numbers, especially as she initially wouldn't eat the 8% this AM or last night. I was tempted to give 6%, but then just couldn't think clearly and she ate the 8% when the Mirtazapine kicked in; thought I'd just stick to 8% today and see how she went with that with starting in pink. Will I just have to learn how she goes with Lev and how carbs affect her before the onset?

I'm hoping that I can try to stick to one number range, if possible, that will work with her rather than trying to juggle carbs, especially as she seems to be going flatter on the Lev. Girlie, please pick 4% carbs: we have lots of varieties in that range! :-)

It's interesting learning a new sugar dance with a different insulin...but I'm very happy with Levemir so far.

I knew the liquid wouldn't work with Max, so they gave me needles so I could inject it instead. That worked well: he's docile for that, but would have fought me with the mouth thing.

That is so exactly what Max has been like! I'm just laughing at your description: spot on there. I sit on the couch and he just RUNS to get on my lap and goes "oh my god! oh my god! I LOVE YOU!" and then can't sit still. :p

It is so funny to see and I much prefer that to them being in pain. The common practice when Asia was a kitten was "cats don't feel pain like humans" o_O:mad: and they would spay them without any pain meds after. I'm glad someone realized how daft that was and it's different now.
 
The only time I have had pudding poo with Gizmo it was due to food changes (almost 100% sure that was the cause). With the gravy and different % carb food I would bet it is messing with her GI system.

Will Girlie eat food with SEB?

Gizmo did have giardi as a kitten O.M.G. :eek::arghh::mad: talk about stinky, runny, pooy messes all over everything.

Poor Gizmo as a kitten - but poor you! Ewww!!!

Gosh I hope it's not the CIK gravy - that's been a lifesaver. She gets pudding poo when the Miralax is too high, but the leaking is new - and I very much hope short-lived.

I'm going to try to get some SEB here: do you just mix it in the food slurry, or do you mix it with water and give it by mouth?

I don't want to add too many new things into the mix, though: if I can do one thing at a time, then I can eliminate it as a cause if there are problems. But next week might be the go. :-)
 
One day constipated - the next, leaking and pudding poo. I'm just laughing at it all; still, it can't be comfortable for poor Girlie's insides. And she doesn't want to smell like poo, either! :eek:

Solid line of pinks from the AMPS: I like that Levemir does this; I just have to figure out how to make it a solid line of blues or greens! :-)

I gave her 6% at +5 as she was starting to go up. I doubt that that will affect her much. I think if this happens tonight or tomorrow, I'll start at a lower carb number and see how we go with that.

I use a small ramekin and put 1/8 teaspoon SEB (or MMR) with 1-2 Tablespoons HOT water and mix it up really well with a stir stick (like for coffee) and then microwave it for 10 seconds. You are looking for a thicker, slimier consistancy and the hot water achieves this. Then I add it to his PS food AM & PM.
 
+6 = 423: sorry, Girlie: next time you're in pink, we're going for a lower carb food.

She did do big dives last night at PM+3 (-181 pts in an hour) and PM+5 (169 pts in two hours), so she might well be bouncing from that, too.

I think I will carbs lower than 8% now as she's not doing the deep, early dives on Lev that she did on Lantus. And we'll see how she goes: I knew that dose increases might well be in order once the Lantus worked its way out of her system. Tonight will be Cycle 6, so by morning, I guess it will just be the Levemir in play.

Still - happy it's been solid pink and not solid black or red! :-) And I feel much safer going in to work this afternoon and leaving her. She's also been happy in herself (leaking aside): she actually followed me around the house a little bit today. So that's good! :-)
