Hello-

Tonight Maxi's Lantus increases to 8.25 units.

Is it time to change his R scale? Sometimes it doesn't seem to have much of an effect.

This is his previous R scale:

PS 350 or higher: 1.25u R

PS 300 - 349: 1u R

PS 275 - 299: 0.5u R

This is his current R scale:

PS 350 or higher: 1.5u R

PS 300 - 349: 1.25u R

PS 275 - 299: 0.5u R

+6 greater than 350, give 1u R at +6

Thank you.

I was thinking more of examples of "date - points dropped by hour 4, Maxi was one of bouncing, regular cycle, NDW, flat, ...."

Good news on no ketones. What was the urine test for besides ketones?

Because Maxi has kidney disease, the vet also tested his urine for kidney function - something about gravity - but she said it was too dilute to be accurate. He consumes a lot of water mixed with his food.

USG - urine specific gravity. It's a measure of how well they are concentrating the urine. Poorer functioning kidneys can't concentrate as well. If they are drinking more, or later in the day, it will be less concentrated. You want to get a first thing in the morning test if you can. If possible, you can grab it at home, and run the sample to the vet, you don't need to take Maxi for that.

I collected Maxi's urine at home and brought it to the vet, but it was about 2.5 hours after he ate watery food. I'll try again before he eats.
