Yesterday caber 128 HAPPY GOTCHA DAY

1 year ago today Love was put in a carrier for the longest ride of her life. She left Canada about 7 AM crossed the border a 8:36 AM. Handed off to @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) and continued on her way. It was such a nerve wracking day from me. I picked her up at 4 PM, from @milfordcollector (sorry don't know the transporters in between) and headed home with my new baby. Rain was torrential at this point and because of huge truck in front of me and exit sign down (from plows) missed our turn and added an extra 30 minutes to our trip. Here she is right out of the carrier upon arriving home.

In this past year, she has gained a new name Olive aka Ollie, 4 lbs, a brother, 2 sisters, mom and dad bean and a grandpa. She has been put through many test in her first month here including dental few months later. Besides diabetes, we found out she has an abdominal mass, HCM, Acromegaly and chronic p'titis. She loves food, showing her belly and the loudest purr. Occasionally plays, on very rare occasions will have a short zoomie period then deep sleep for next couple of hours. She puts up with meds, pokies, shots, mom constantly disturbing her sleep if she's to quiet. She remains a great traveler and goes visiting to grandpa and sometimes she has to come with me on my appts or shopping. Of course she is in style being in a pet stroller, she gets many oohs and ahs, and sometimes shocks people when they realise she's a cat. We educate others when we can. Just yesterday a woman in Wegmans put the dry food back on the shelf and got a case of FF pate. It all came about when she told me dry food was cheaper and easier than all the cans I had in my basket. So I told her why dry food was not an option for me. We talked quite a bit. Then the same thing happened in PetSmart after that, when a lady told me FF was lousy food and I should but quality brands.

Anywho, here she is today, comfortable, happy, I hope feeling better. Could stand to lose a bit, but so could I.

What a beautiful Gotcha story for a beautiful kitty! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Did you know she was a sugar kitty when you got her? You have managed her care to the point where it is finely tuned machine, but I'm sure there was a lot of trial and error in getting to the point where you are today. She is so lucky to have you taking care of her.

I would love to see a photo of her in the stroller. My DD would absolutely love it if we could Bailey to do that!

I too have had conversations in the store about the dangers of dry food. Hopefully, we are doing our small part of prevent the spread of this disease.

Happy Gotcha Day Ollie! How about throwing your mama bean a pickle today in celebration!

Yes I did know she was diabetic newly DX 1/28/18. To make a long story short. A woman, very pregnant was taking her trash out and found her in the dumpster looking for food. -30 degrees temperature. She took her in. Had her couple of weeks, trying to find owners or placement for her. Noticed she wasn't well and somehow a friend who was also rescue volunteer started helping because of the woman's advanced pregnancy and FD was dx. Shelter changed diet to some kind of dry food. At this time I was trying to adopt another kitty and Olive came up on DCIN page. And it said for rescue only. And I only wanted to know why rescue only, I will still trying to get the other cat (story in itself) who was only a few hours from me. Next thing I know @Chris & China (GA) says they can get a rescue involved and transport her. Next thing I remember is I offer to buy her insulin so they can get it started and Chris is sending them meter equipment, suggesting food and how to test and give insulin. Transport request is posted for 2/3 but couldn't get all the legs filled on such short notice. But could the following week. It all happened so fast, (like 10 days from asking question) to get Olive out before woman gave birth and wouldn't be able take care of her. And all because I asked a question, don't think I will ever ask that one question again.

Next time I have Her in stroller I will get a pic. It will be awhile yet.

This is the stroller I have in red (for previous kitty). I don't use the canopy.

That is the cutest little thing!
When our dog was overweight, my son would take her for long walks in the city and then have to carry her back to the apartment because she would get so tired. This would have made his life so much easier for him! Between diet and exercise, she is now down to her ideal weight of 20lbs. She was 29 (I believe) at the time.

Paula, Olive is so beautiful. I am so glad you found each other and enrich each other's lives. Granted, you have to do all the work, but she's a very lucky girl and you get lots of love in return. You just never know when you turn a corner, how your life will change. :bighug::bighug:

I got the stroller/carrier combo for Smokey. He was 18lbs, my back and sciatica was acting up. I couldn't handle the hard carrier size he required going up and down 13 steps and then walking the vet parking lot. The combo was a godsend. The frame folds right up and stays in the car, I can put cat in carrier in the house and carry out to the car, or if my back is out I can use the stroller and my patio sliders and go down the slop in my yard to car. So no chance of escape which was good because previous vet is on a 4lane highway.

Sounds like the stroller/carrier combo really made your life easier with Smokey. I honestly never thought of a stroller for a pet.

I well remember that day. @Linda and Bear Man was visiting us for Winter Carnival that weekend, so we both drove up to Plattsburgh (on the Canadian border) to meet the women transporting Olive from Montreal and do the next lap of the transport to get your girl to her furever home. What a good traveler she was!
Paula, you have cared for Olive so wonderfully and she looks great. Happy Gotcha Day!

Please forgive me, I forgot the most important thing. FDMB, all her Aunties, Uncles, cousins (kitties) here. All the support, advice, laughs have gotten us through this year. When things looked dim and at times felt hopeless all of you were here, got us through the hour. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Here is to many more years for all of us.
