Quite the surprise this morning, first test was a 36, immediate retest was 51, he got a few syrup drops with his am meal and a 50% one time reduction. He's not eating well either, skipping lunch, etc. He still isn't feeling good and a vet visit is in the works. Appy has been iffy at best even with all the tricks that used to work. Last night he was ready for his bedtime snack and ate pretty good, this morning not so much. I've been struggling with this on again off again appy issue and it is one more new thing to try to understand since he has always been a strong eater.

He is tending to stay in one spot for a long time, and I've had to come to him to test BG, when he normally was already in the kitchen by the time I got supplies ready.

I've been working on researching and compiling data to augment my case for some pain meds for the little guy.

My batteries are just drained the last few weeks and I just want to go hide under the covers right now:(
I'm a little lost and not sure what I can do other then try to get some pain meds for the kitty.

Here's to hoping later today or tomorrow is a better day for both of us.

Hope all the kitties are doing good today in L&L land.

{{{Wes}}} So sorry Captain Jack is feeling off.:bighug: I know how overwhelming it is to face the acro beast. Much less those morning numbers. So much for that dose.

If you do go to the vet, I wonder if there is value in getting a GI panel (bloodwork) done and send to Texas AMU. So many of our acro kitties seem to end up with GI issues of some type or other. A lot end up on B12 supplementation that seems to help. I had Neko's folate/cobalamin tested and she was in range though not mid range. So I didn't need B12, but I've seen a few acros on it.

For pain meds, I wonder if just a general question to the RVC would help your case. I know Suki sent some general question about symptoms and acros to RVC and got a lot of good info she shared with her vet. I would also ask your vet about an Adequan trial to see if it helps - it won't hurt anything.

If there is arthritis, which I suspect, there are also some things you can do that don't require a vet. With Neko I tried fish oil and Duralactin for inflammation. Hyaluronic acid (brand Hyaflex) and our equivalent of Adequan for the joints. What also really helped her was acupuncture sessions. I don't know if you have a vet near you that does acupuncture - but I didn't need a vet referral for that. And since Neko's acupucture vet was also a regular vet, she was a second sounding board. Vets who've done extra training like that tend to be more open to different ways to solve a problem.

Ugh, sorry to hear our little buddy isn't feeling too good:bighug::bighug::bighug:. Waking up to those numbers don't help the beans stress and exhaustion. I hope his appy picks up and you both have some better days coming.

Thanks for all the well wishes, Jack perked up a bit during the day and appy was better, his numbers shot up but I expected that with the dose this morning. I think we will try 26u and see what kind of numbers we get. It has been tough trying to figure out dosing lately, between an unpredictable appetite and these 300 to 30's dives, he's got me nice and confused. The appy has been weird, I am questioning p'titis since in 12 hours he goes from barely eating to CPC then back to barely eating.

If there is arthritis, which I suspect,
I strongly suspect this as well. Last vet visit she recommended trying some OTC stuff first before going the adequan route. I haven't noticed any significant improvement on cosequin, and he walks with his back legs pretty much locked, like a little peg leg pirate. Hopefully she will be ok with me doing the injections at home, I already stick him enough that one more shouldn't be an issue. Also going to try to talk her into a low dose trial of bupe, maybe .1mg which would be at the lower end of the scale, but should let me see if it helps him.

Neko was a little bit peg leg too. That's what I really liked about the acupuncture. It loosened her up and provided pain relief. Vetty also showed me some physio exercises and acupressure that I did daily and she really liked - used to purr through it.

FWIW, Neko got .22ml bupe bid. She was not quite 15 lbs.
