Yesterday...

5th cycle on 5.5 units.

I molded some sharp cheddar cheese around the thyroid pill this morning and Chino took the bait! Though I'm going to have to find an inconspicuous way to give it to him, since the fuzzball saw it and thought he wanted a cheese-covered pill, too.

I also found a number of pill wrap pastes on Amazon, though most (if not all) have wheat flour, corn syrup, and other ingredients that aren't good for diabetic cats... or any cats, really. But I need some sort of backup in case he figures out that there's a pill inside. This cat is too smart for his own good.

Now, whom do I have to threaten/bribe/kick/beg to get his lab results?

If they sent them overnight from when you had the blood drawn the results should be in. I had to firmly continue to call the IM vet for them and basically tell them to "open their eyes", call MSU or what ever to get the results I paid for. I'm not a nice person at times but shortly after that they miraculously appeared

I called and argued the following:

  • I paid for overnight shipping so the specimens would be in the lab on Tuesday.
  • Turnaround time for the IAA is 2-7 days. Today is day #8.
  • Turnaround time for the IGF-1 is 4-9 days, depending on when it was sent.
  • Since it was sent last Monday, it would've been run last Wednesday.

I asked them to call the lab to follow up if it's not back by this afternoon. The receptionist said she'd leave a message for the doctor. Though if he hasn't read up on treatment options for IAA or acromegaly and either come back positive today, he might wait to call again until he consults another doctor, like he did with the free T4.

I'm betting this is what is happening. Most don't know much about Acro and even less about IAA. In fact most still don't recognize IAA as a condition. The first IM vet that ran the test held onto the results and kept telling me they were slightly elevated but not relevant because of Doodles HCM/CHF. After demanding the actual results that ended up being 74% (much more than slightly elevated) plus Doodles being on 12u in red and black I fired her. When I had the tests redone in Nov. the results were 78% so basically the same but at least the second IM vet acknowledged the condition. I've said it many times..if it wasn't for this board and the experienced folks dedicated to help Doodles would not be here today.

Hopefully your phone call will lite the fire. BTW, glad Chino fell for the cheese trick today!

Grrrrrr. I got a call back - apparently they got the specimen but had to send it to another location that didn't receive it until Thursday, so the IGF-1 is being run today. She said I can probably expect results on Monday, if not sooner. Then I asked about the IAA and she said, "Nobody told you?" No, every time I asked if the IAA or IGF-1 result was back, I was told no results were back!!! But it's good news. IAA = 0.

Great news on the IAA results, just one less thing to worry about. :)

Now Chino, about those pinks.

I ended up giving my civie a treat every time Neko got one, just maybe a different type. Came in handy when I had to start feeding him pills.

6th cycle on 5.5 units. It's nice to see that he didn't go back up after hitting his nadir... I'm hopeful that I might even see yellow before I go to bed.

I'll be taking him up to 6 units tomorrow morning. While I'm afraid that a drop into the low yellows (low 200s) might cause a bounce that will break when no one is around to test, I can't leave him in the 300s (true BG being in the 400s) all day and all night from now until I get back in 8 days.
