Tiger went in for her Ultrasound Tuesday morning- the on duty vet called early afternoon to let me know she was ready for pick up. She nicely let me know there was nothing horrible or scary about the results, but that the technician required time to write up his report and it would probably not be available until the next day. :eek: Tiger was, of course, indignant when I picked her up- hissing, and complaining about her nekked belly and not being fed on time...I am patiently trying to get belly photos- she is not having any of it at this point! The good news: no lymphoma; The not so good news(but I truthfully expected this) she has mild to moderate chronic pancreatitis; mild generalized IBD; nild bilateral pyelecasia; mild degenerative renal changes(early stages of CKD) and evidence of mild vacuolar hepatopathy secondary to diabetes meilitis. It's taken me all this time to look up all of these big words.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I had a nice long conversation with our vet yesterday- she wants to continue treating the p-titis the way we have been doing it- cerenia/pepcid/bupe as needed. This has so far kept the vomiting at bay, which was my major concern to begin with. This next Friday is follow up BW and urinalysis to make sure the Urinary Tract Infection is gone. I am watching her tonight, she made a few quick trips to the lb late this afternoon, but on the last try, it looked normal. We are very glad to have this week over with!

Anyone with IBD/CKD/Feline diabetes with any food advice would be greatly appreciated!

Okay Rusty, now it is your turn next month-the belly shave ain't as bad as they say, but the hoomans keep bugging me for a photo shoot- Tiger :cat:

Our hearts go out to Hellen for the loss of her Shadow, and to Melissa's family for the loss of Turnup. And we continue to send healing vines for Amy's DF; Elise's DM ; Tricia's Crew, and Lyressa's DF and all other kitties in need and their humans. :bighug:
 
Hi Ruth - good to see a Tiger post, and that the U/S results were not too bad. Yeah for no C! :) @Anne & Zener (GA) had the triple combo to deal with (IAA, CKD, FD), but he was a one food kind of guy. Is the vet suggesting any meds for the IBD yet?

Paws crossed for good b/w next time and saying good bye to the UTI.

Hi Ruth, That's a relief that there is no evidence of lymphoma. Now you can keep dealing with the other issues and get everything under control. I think that Linda (Bear Man) will be able to help you with some of your questions, so I'm taking the liberty of tagging her here. @Linda and Bear Man

I think Wendy meant IBD, not IAA. We used Cerenia, ondansetron, and Zantac. That seemed to work pretty well for Zener, who always tried his best in spite of all the tummy issues. He would pretty much only eat Fancy Feast Chicken Florentine. There were a couple of others that he would eat on occasion but they were high in phosphorus so we dropped those when the kidney issue came up. He was a fan of fortiflora and freeze dried chicken so we used those sparingly. Oh, and his BGs were all over the place.

@Wendy&Neko Wendy, so far my vet doesn't want to change diet- she knows supposed prescription diet food is garbage for CKD or IBD. But she has said before a raw diet is close to what cats eat in the wild and has been shown to help with IBD. I have Radcat in the fridge, just too afraid to try it out.:nailbiting:

@Anne & Zener (GA) Liz, know what you mean about BG's all over the place- same here but I am now understanding why :eek:

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) Rusty- Bean almost got me in a photo- but I showed her, I moved hee hee - Tiger :cat:

I LOVE your vet! Molly/Skooter is also feeding raw for his IBD. Neko/Theo love their raw food too. You can try just a tsp at a time to see if Tiger likes it. Some kitties need probiotics to transition, neither of mine did. And try serving it at room temps by adding a bit of warm water. ETA: Chicken is the easiest to start with.

Ruth, I've been on pins and needles waiting to hear the US results - I have just been there, done that! I'm so glad your results were better than ours! That's a lot of big, scary words, but it sounds like it is all manageable when you have a wonderful bean in charge. When we thought Harvey had IBD, the IM vet suggested I get with the UCDVMTH nutrition department and they would come up with a customized homemade diet for him that would accommodate all his issues. Perhaps you can find an animal nutritionist to do that for you, if you don't find another option that will work.

That report is confusing to me. With Gracie having had elevated ALT, I've done a lot of research on the liver. Vacuolar hepatopathy is extremely rare in cats. It's common to see an elevation in ALP...which Tiger does not have...and also anemia might be present...which she does not have. Does she have w distended belly? Has she ever had steroids because it is associated in dogs with high steroid use.

I'm so glad there is no lymphoma. You can deal with the rest and the Cerenia is good for the inflammation from IBD. The other raw you might try is Primal. Tobey has done super well on it and he loves it. The company is really committed to high quality foods and great customer service. It is much easier to feed than the Radcat.

You might have moved Tiger but we can still see some belly and OMG it is so cute I just want to smother it in kisses!

Glad to hear everything went well. Yikes on all those big words but awesome that the C word wasn't amongst them. There's a product called Astro's Oil for kidney cats, I think it helps with all types of inflammatory conditions so it might help with the pancreatitis and IBD too.

Is Primal freeze dried raw a good food? It was suggested to me when Stella & Chewys was dropped by chewy.com because of production issues. They did send a bag of the turkey and I have another I bought locally but was curious about Primal.
