Luci has dropped 90 points in an hour and a half. Should I check her more often this morning? I'm worried about her doing a deep dive on me...have FF with gravy on stand by should she decide to do that...
Please advise on BG checking times. Thank you.

That's a decent drop, see if you can get her to eat a little now and see if it slows her down, a medium carb food even since she should still drop for a bit yet if she's going to. Checking more frequently is prudent, hourly as long as numbers dictate. What do you think her nadir is? On drops I check frequently until nadir and then ease up.

I agree with Stacy. I'd give her some LC and test in 30 min or so to see if that will level out Luci's numbers. I have a feeling you may have shot a dropping number. That's not a bad thing -- it just means you may need to be testing a bit more to make sure the numbers don't get away from you.

Luci's at 48 now - I'm giving her a half can of Rachel Ray's Nutrish - Chicken Purrcata - she's eating it right up! I'm as nervous as a cat now! She's calm... go figure!
I'll check her again in 30 minutes to find out if the med carb food has helped...I don't mind testing extra today. I'm here...and watching her closely.

I do not know when her nadir is - I can't tell from all her crazy numbers - can anyone look at her SS and tell me when it is? Thanks!

She ate FF chicken feast after the 84 - now after the 48 she's eating Rachel Ray Nutrish - chicken purrcata - looks like a med carb based on the cat food nutrition list...she's playing with the cords behind the sofa now...that girl - so crazy! After a getting some water first! She's running around now...she seems to be feeling fine!

Still at 48 - I gave her 5 pieces of kibble - Dietetic Maintenance - I understand it's 18% carb - so just a tiny amount...let's see what happens at 3.5 BG test.

Just an FYI - it takes kibble longer than gravy or syrup to be metabolized. You'll get a quicker response from something that's non-kibble.

I'm late to your condo today. *sigh* Luci, come on up!

I think we will need to give Luci a little more time on 1.5u and make sure she breaks any bounces before discussing an increase. We will have to analyze the SS and see how many cycles it takes Luci to break a bounce.

I'm grateful for any help. She's eating a pouch of FF creamy right now - I'll be checking her every 30 minutes until this turns around. I'll be very nervous about 1.75 dosage tonight if she doesn't come up soon...If her number is still going down on the next check, it'll be time to bring out the HC Gravy Lovers. Hate to send her numbers way up on HC food...but I'm nervous that she's going too low...

I'm here all day to work with her...will check as often as it takes to get her back out of these really low numbers...

Finally, she's turning it around - up to 45 now. I fed her a teaspoon of FF Delights with Cheddar. (Chicken & Cheddar Feast in Gravy)...I've been researching all these foods...so hard to find a carb count for all of the ones I have on hand (like the FF pouch in Creamy broth),..but Luci is cooperating and eating everything she's offered....and submitting to all the testing easily - thankfully!

You don't want her to eat too much at once because then she might get full, go back down, and won't want to eat again when you need her to. Usually the recommendation is one to two teaspoons of HC gravy. I always follow up with a couple teaspoons of low carb to start and then just gravy until the numbers are up, and then a little more low carb to sustain it.

I bought ones from Dr Lisa's list specifically with HC and then sharpie wrote on all of them the carb number so I could grab what I needed without looking them up.

BG is at 44 - so down just one point. Fed another teaspoon of HC - FF Delights with Cheddar - Checked and found it's 20% card. Will investigate all the HC and MC foods I have on hand - can't find any info on Rachel Ray Nutrish chicken purrcata (as yet)...thought it was med carb..

So I've got all my cans of Gravy Lovers out and am finding they're between 13 and 15% carbs - is that medium or high?

I thought it was 17% and up for HC. 10-16% is MC.

If you don't have HC, then honey or karo will work. I always had to add honey to my HC for Rex because he was hard to bring up.

I looked it up, never used MC myself, but according to slang dictionary:

MC – Medium carb food (usually 11 - 15% carbs, depending on the carb sensitivity of the cat)

So anything under is LC, anything over is HC.

Up to 56! Yeah! And a teaspoon or so of Rachel Ray's 14% carb nutrish chicken purrcata....I think we're better now :) Whew...that girl...

Good job monitoring her. Since her nadirs are a bit all over the place, you still want to make sure she's coming up, the general rule is when they stop dropping and can hold their numbers for 2 hours without higher carb food/sugar, you're good.

92 now :) Without any food for two hours. I'm feeling a bit relieved to see her number below 100. Should I give her the 1.5 at our usual time this evening? That's at 7:20 - if her PMPS is still in this range - am I going to be up all night monitoring? I guess I'm getting ahead of myself at this point - will wait to see how her numbers look in another 2 hours...she acts like she's feeling just fine - as for me I'm a bit strung out from all those low numbers this morning - crazy cat lady ... :arghh:

Yes, wait and see what the PMPS is, you still have a ways to go. But...if it's a high green or low blue, that's just the type of momentum you are looking for. The idea is that she will surf as opposed to drop dramatically, and of course we are all nervous watching it, but they do surprising things sometimes. I hope you can sneak a little nap in. :bighug:

Yes, wait until PMPS to see what Luci does.

I would suggest you put the latest number in your title so people won't think you are still trying to get Luci into safe numbers. :D

Well there she goes soaring again - 241 now at +10. I guess we'll be ok to do 1.5 in a couple of hours. I wish she could have stayed a little lower - but she's a cat of her own mind and does whatever she wants..disregards my feelings and concerns completely. She's safely back into her comfortable yellow dress...enough deep diving in the lagoon for one day..mom! me= :banghead:
Luci = :cat:

She's feeling fine as wine...I could use some wine...but I'm on cat pokey ear duty...and she knows it :) No wine for me...only wine allowed is 'whine' to my support group.

And she finishes in the red zone :( Talk about a bouncing kitty. She has certainly given me a ride today...when is she going to 'coast' along the lagoon, not go for those deep dives...and not go so high when it's over? What causes these big bounces?

It's likely because she went so low, bounces are very common after lows like that, additionally, any high carb and sugar you gave today could be showing up later, studies have been done and I think the response after eating for cats can take 12 hours plus. Don't worry, she will come back to Earth soon.

There are cats that just like to bounce. There was a condo today about someone who had a cat who still bounces after 2 years. @CassAndGordy is another one who has been at this for a year and Gordy still bounces.

You just need to be patient and hope one day Luci's body stops panicking at every green. :bighug:

Fortunately no karo/honey or sugar was given. She responded pretty well to small amount of MC foods - tiny portions...but eventually she started to climb back...I was hoping she'd stick around the greens a bit longer - just a bit higher than those low numbers...but she just couldn't...so we'll hope for the best for the next few days...I'll check her again a few times tonight...she did get 1.5 - so I'll check soon to see how she's responding to that dose.

Luci is down to 279 - a drop of 132 points at 1+ - should I continue to check her frequently tonight? Is she falling into the danger zone again?

I'd test again in a couple of hours to see what she has planned for tonight. The larger depot can last 4-6 cycles after a reduction.

In the Remarks section of the SS, you might want to note amount, % carbs, and times you fed her food other than her normal food. That way you can see at a glance how the higher carb foods worked and how much you needed. A tool for next time.
