I don't know if the reduction to 8U is for good, but until her depot wears out and while her numbers stay so low, her shot will stay at 8U.

Recently her numbers went far enough down to require only 6U, and then went up to 9U which is really high for TiTi, and now, maybe she is going down again.

Is this the acro tumor shrinking again?
And if so, is it common for the acro tumor to be so active?o_O

After looking quite bad last evening - minimal eating, very lethargic, just lying about looking out of it, and losing her balance when she turned - TITi now seems to be perky and is eating well, purring away, has a steady gait, and jumps up on the bed to cuddle. I'm pleased, but so confused.

Thanks. This FD is soooo complicated, and add acro (need an Icon for tearing my hair out by the roots and screaming). Just joking...I think.

You don't have acro in TiTi's signature. You just suspect it? You haven't tested for it? Yum did have mysterious ups and downs last year, but she wasn't high dose so I never suspected it.
TiTi does have a lot of problems. I am so lucky Yum only has the one so far.

Hi If you look at my little girls SS you will see what Wendy thought was the Tumor Acting Up She told me to turn my head upside down with my little Acro:confused:

    acro with FD

I looked, but I'm not sure which part of the spread sheet was the tumor acting up. Was it the recnt pins? I do see that your trajectory of increasing insulin needs looks very similar to mine.

What did Wendy mean, Turn your head upside down?

She's doing great. It's so sudden, the downswing and the upswing. Today, it's like it never happened, and her Insulin needs are diminishing - all good news.
2 days ago I was in tears, because she looked so bad, and the very next day she began rapidly improving. It's a roller coaster ride.

What on earth is happening. I have no idea what to do. She only hit a low blue today, otherwise all green and I just reduced her insulin. She's 70@PMPS, and I am afraid to shoot. Last night was a fight to keep her numbers safe. I have no idea what to do.

    That was this morning.
Now at PMPS she's still doing fine, but not so hungry as usual and her numbers are scary low

    well,
you know your choices. You can stall to see if she's about to go up on her own....

i certainly would not skip, but if you want to drain the depot a little since you just recently reduced .

She was lower at pmps last night and you shot....

I'm not familiar with Titi's story enough to know if you haee special foods in rserver for the low appy days....

I use honey mixed in with fancy feast pates.
I should not have shot last night. It was not easy to keep her in safe numbers, and I'm going on 4 hours sleep today.
. This is totally unlike TiTI, which is why I'm stuck for what to do. She bounces a lot, but never this flat kind of ever lowering BG. I'm afraid of a dka( spelling?).

well, that is the uncertainty with FD...
    the routine can change.

If you are worried about dka, then you have to give her something.....

myself personally would stall just to know if she's about to go up on her own or not...

Your lab page doesn't say when it was taken.

I'm wondering about her potassium since she was unstable a couple of days ago....
the potassium that might be in the fluids might have helped her be more steady.

Yes, but after almost 2 years of a particular pattern?
    I am stalling. she's up to 77@+13.5

dka worries me because she's not rising much, yet she's eating. Last night she'd go up a tad with honey, and then fall back down an hour later. It wasn't unil +6 that she maintained a safe BGfor 2 hours, without any extra carbs-honey.
Oh dear, I haven't even thanked you for helping./ THANK YOU>

you know, last night's numbers didn't really go low low....
those are all good ideal numbers.....

I understand the feeling nervous when you only have one floor below you ( green)
    BUT
the drama gets much lesser when you are on the blue floor..... those crazy drops don't happen....
    the levels start staying level....

you hold the syringe so it's always your decision and if you are exhausted, you have to take care of yourself too...
    That's important...

    What have you decided?

remember that stalling for more than half an hour starts acting like a reduction as well , as the depot is only beginning to drain just a smitten....

I would be continuing to stall.....
Yes you can give a lesser amount.... like 7 units... but whatever Titi is going to do is set at the moment regardless of your action for the next couple of hours....

How are you at sleeping on the couch ? I did that when I had to check in an hour or two... but that way I did sleep in between without bothering dh. I had everything there.... and just sat up and tested, then rolled back over unless I had to get up for food.
(I never had to as my girl was a perfect surfer)

And she isn't going lower.... with her 90 min stall..... she's just surfing which is ideal.

I thoroughly dislike skipping. I think there's a possibility that this is a good thing, and I could wreck it by skipping.

if dka has ever been in her history, no skipping....
even if you skipped, she has quite a depot so like I said, she's going to do what she's going to do.

And yes.... don't want to lose momentum.

that's why i've been saying stall, hoping that she can have her current dose.

Yes, I've been thinking that as well. She isn't madly drinking water, and her urination seems normal for the first time in along time. I A few months ago she went all the way down to 6U, and then climbed back up to 9U. So perhaps this is anewish pattern.

I don't know with high dose kitties, I've seen Wendy recommend draining the depot by reducing the dose a little bit or even half dose, but those kitties were throwing lime greens a lot, DKA history makes this more tricky as well.

You shot the 70 this morning and it looks like she did okay and came up over time. I would shoot something if you can get back on track, whatever you feel comfortable with, maybe go down a unit and reassess for going forward depending on what she does. It's great that she is eating, it's tricky if you have to fight to keep the numbers up.

I'm so glad she's feeling good though!

infection would be in the mix for dka....
sounds like she's doing good at the moment and just had fluids as well....

    have you tested again yet?

I'm inclined to say stay with the 8 units ...

Yes you can shoot less. Shooting later acts like a reduction, so a lower dose and a later dose isn't usually necessary. But I think it's up to you what you do. You are the one who knows how tired you are. One option is to shoot 4-5 units tonight and resume with the 8 unit dose tomorrow morning. Her numbers will be higher for a few cycles, but that'll allow you to get sleep and will help drain the 9 unit depot which is still in play. If you are up for it, you can shoot full dose. In either of these cases, your shot tomorrow morning will be delayed by 1.5 hours, or however much later it is now. Or you can skip, get sleep and let the depot help her numbers out a bit. Just try not to worry about temporary higher numbers. Skip or reduced dose will not impact her progress. What do you feel like doing?

She had a pancreatic flare-up 2 days ago. Seemed to resolve with a steroid shot, cerenea and some extra sub-q fluids. Don't know if that qualifies as an infection. Only been 25 minutes, I was figuring on testing hourly.so in 30 minutes. She seems pretty flat.

I think this could be a good thing. I'd like to shoot wisely. I don't want to wreck her momentum. Her numbers are actually superb. What If I shoot 7 and check every 90minutes or so?

She's flat, should be OK to shoot. But tomorrow's shot will be two hours late as well. However, I wouldn't bother just lowering the dose by 1 unit. The depot will still be in play. Either do full dose, a significant reduction, or skip. She must be climing your leg for food by now!

Sorry, back now. What did you do? Any of the options I listed would be fine. Given that it's now 2.5 hours past shot time, I'd lean to a skip so I could sleep, but it really depends how easy it is for you to handle the delay in PS.

    Hi Kathy,

Sorry I couldn't get on to help when you needed it. I can't seem to manage on the Board very well from my phone, and my tablet battery died when I got to the bowling alley. I had it on the charger all night, too. :banghead::mad: I'm glad Rhiannon and Wendy were able to answer my SOS and help you.

FWIW, I think you made the right choice, stalling and shooting the full dose. Now TiTI, you need to play your part and surf prettily for Mama. I'll check back a little later for an update.
