Not a good day yesterday. At all. After a good weekend, Lenny was having a harder time walking again. I was hopeful that water therapy would help, so I took him to his appointment last night. He started swimming fine, but a few minutes into his session, his right hind leg stopped moving and he rolled in the water. Thankfully, the physical therapist was right there and got him out safely.
Once he got out of the pool, he was unable to walk or even stand and you could see his a spasm going down his spine. It was awful. We managed to get him back into my car with a sling and I drove him straight to the vet from there. He somehow pinched a nerve. After laser therapy, pain meds and an alpha-stim treatment, I took him home. Luckily, I have a ramp at home to get him up the three steps into the house- but he is a 70-pound dog and helping him isn't that easy. The vet let me borrow their alpha-stim machine to see if that helps with the pain.
But the big question is why this keeps happening. And the only way to maybe get an answer is probably an MRI. He is only 6 years old and could easily take 5-mile hikes a few weeks ago. The vet is looking into some options today and will probably give me a referral to a neurologist at Purdue.
I am trying really hard to keep it together. I was so worn out last night, I left extra food out and didn't set an alarm to feed +6 and +9 snacks. I thought for sure that Walter was still bouncing... so that 76 this morning really caught me by surprise. Not too happy with Mandarin's blue start - but I'm sure the lack of snacks is to blame.
Thankfully, Capone is looking better... and I pilled Iris with the help of our new kitty straitjacket (aka the cat restraint bag). Thank you @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey for recommending it - it made a world of difference. I struggled to get her in, but once it was zipped up, she calmed down and I was able to get the ABs into her on the second try.
