Good evening LL!

Based on the amount of food I've put down and thrown out, Clyde appears to be eating but only at night. Over the last three days, he's eaten 1.2 - 1.85oz of food during the day and 3-4.2oz of food at night. Unfortunately, this translates into less then 6oz of food per day.

During this time period, the type of food I put down didn't seem to have any real affect on how much he ate. The only difference I could see was a increase in BG levels. The Fancy Feast, while low carb, was double the percent carb as the EVO he usually gets. (Fancy Feast is 4% the EVO is 2%).

I did se him eat a little bit in the last half hour or so, but it seems like most of it is happening after I go to sleep.

Does anyone have any idea how many calories a 14 year old 17 pound indoor only sedentary male cat actually needs? Over the weekend he consumed about 175 calories eat day.
 
On Dr. Lisa's page on How Much to Feed, she uses a starting formula of
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70. Most male cats should fall into the 11 -13 pound range.

Using an optimal body weight of 13 (upper end), that would be 246 calories. She calls that a generous portion. I think the key thing is to weight Clyde every 3-4 days and see what his weight is doing.

Hi @Wendy&Neko thank you. I'm glad he's holding his own without insulin, but his weird eating schedule can't be helping.

I didn't think it was enough food, but wasn't entirely sure. I think I will talk to the vet's office tomorrow when they open and see what they think. I weighted him tonight and he weighed 18 pounds which would indicate he gained weight.
 
you definitely don't want him to be gaining weight - not at that level. fat is the enemy of a diabetic.

Weighing him weekly will let you monitor his weight and tell you if he needs more or less food. It may be that he is eating enough, even though it isn't much.
